The Volvo XC90 has been in continuous production since 2002, evolving through two major generations. The original generation (2002–2014) featured straightforward laminated windscreens with rain sensors on most variants, while the second generation (2015 onwards) introduced Volvo's IntelliSafe suite with forward-facing mono cameras, GPS antennas, and LIDAR sensors integrated into the windscreen area.
Green-tinted glass is the norm across 80% of XC90 variants, paired with rain sensors that automatically activate your wipers. Many later models carry acoustic interlayers to reduce cabin noise, and some feature solar-control coatings to manage heat absorption on sunny days.
From around 2015, camera integration became more common as IntelliSafe rolled out across the range. This means replacement windscreens on newer XC90s often require static camera calibration after fitting — a process completed at a workshop with the vehicle properly positioned.
