Repair-vs-replacement criteria
The questions we get asked most often when customers send a chip photo through.
A repair is possible when ALL of the following apply:
Chip is smaller than a £1 coin (25mm).
Crack is shorter than 7.5cm.
Damage is over 5cm from the windscreen edge.
In the driver's direct view, the damage is under 10mm (smaller than a 1p coin).
Only the outer layer of glass is damaged.
A replacement is needed if any of the following apply:
Chip larger than a £1 coin.
Crack longer than 7.5cm.
Damage within 5cm of the edge.
In the driver's direct view, damage exceeds 10mm (an automatic MOT failure).
Damage has penetrated both glass layers.
Multiple cracks forming a 'spider web' pattern.
Damage affects the rain sensor or ADAS camera area.
