Ford Ka rear window price, by year

Pricing varies mainly by whether your Ka carries an integrated brake light in the rear glass and the specific generation of your model. Earlier Ka models without these integrations are generally more straightforward to source, whilst later variants with brake-light patterns or solar-control features require matched specialist glass. The tint colour — whether standard green or darker green on rear doors — also influences availability from suppliers.

Ford Ka Windscreen Replacement Jan 2021 UK Car Glass

Very efficient service. An engineer turned up at the appointed time. Due to adverse weather it was agreed to postpone the job by a day. The next day I was kept fully informed of the arrival time and the job was completed within an hour to a high standard. I was advised not to drive for an hour or so and now have a very clear strong windscreen without a crack with the driver mirror securely in place. The engineer was very friendly, wore a mask and efficiently completed the job. I am happy to recommend for anyone looking for similar work.

Misleading pricing practice

I submitted the details of my vehicle including license plate (from which they can get the VIN) and was given a quote for a replacement windscreen with calibration and home installation. It was a good price compared to competitors and the technician would have been able to repair at home. I accepted the quote and made payment for £889.11, and waited for the confirmation of date and time of installment. 18 hours later I received a call saying that a technician would be able to come out tomorrow to install, however the price quoted was incorrect and in fact it would be £200 more expensive as they got the windscreen part number wrong. Very annoying and potentially misleading pricing practice. I told them to recredit my card and that I would look elsewhere

What to expect during your Ford Ka rear window replacement

Rear-window replacement is a straightforward process from booking to completion.

  1. 1

Start with a quick online quote using our guided quiz — takes about a minute to confirm your Ka's year, trim, and glass features.

  2. 2

Once you've booked, our team carries out a parts check to confirm the exact rear-window variant needed, including any brake-light integration or tint specification.

  3. 3

You'll be matched with a local approved fitter who sources the correct replacement glass.

  4. 4

On fitting day, your fitter removes the shattered glass and fits the new rear window — typically 30–60 minutes of work. Shard cleanup is included, though small shards can lodge in places that need deeper detailing afterwards.

  5. 5

Your fitter confirms the drive-away time and completes a final check before you leave.

  6. 6

A professional valet or interior clean afterwards is recommended to catch any remaining glass fragments in hard-to-reach spots.

Your replacement is covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and glass quality.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Ka?

Most Ford Ka rear-window replacements are carried out mobile at your address, since the rear glass doesn't require ADAS calibration. Your fitter arrives with the correct glass sourced to your specification — including any brake-light integration or tint detail — and completes the job on your driveway.

A workshop visit is only necessary if your fitter needs better access to the vehicle's interior for thorough shard cleanup, or if weather conditions make mobile fitting impractical. This is discussed and agreed before the booking is confirmed.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Heated Rear Windscreen4
    1996–2020

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

  • Brake Light3
    1996–2020

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass itself, requiring a matching replacement to reconnect the original lighting circuit.

    What it means

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass is a lighting element built directly into the glass panel during manufacturing. Rather than using a separate lamp cluster mounted to the vehicle body, the light circuit is routed through conductive elements — typically a silkscreen pattern, wire network, or bracket assembly — embedded in or bonded to the glass itself. When you brake, this integrated light illuminates to warn following traffic. It combines functionality with design integration, reducing the number of separate components on the rear of the vehicle.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's rear window for a visible pattern of fine lines or wires running across the glass, usually near the top edge or spanning the upper portion. Look at your vehicle's manual or contact your dealer's service centre — they can confirm whether your rear window carries an integrated brake light. If you see a separate brake-light cluster mounted to the bodywork instead, your vehicle does not have this feature.

    Replacement impact

The replacement rear window must carry the identical integrated brake-light pattern so the original lighting circuit reconnects without modification. The conductive elements — whether silkscreen, wiring, or bracket fittings — must align precisely with the vehicle's electrical connections. Using a standard rear window without this pattern would disable the brake light. We source the correct OE-specification glass to ensure a seamless fit and restore full functionality.

  • Green3
    1996–2020

Green tint reduces glare and improves visual comfort by filtering certain light wavelengths.

    What it means

Green tint is a light-filtering coating applied to the glass during manufacture. It absorbs and reduces transmission of certain wavelengths of light, primarily to cut glare from sunlight and reflections. The tint is subtle — often barely visible to the naked eye — but measurably improves visual comfort during prolonged driving, particularly in bright conditions. It's a factory specification chosen by the vehicle manufacturer to balance daylight comfort with interior visibility and aesthetic consistency across all glass in the vehicle.

    How to tell

The easiest way to check is to roll your side window halfway down and hold a piece of white paper behind it. Look carefully for a tint cast — green tint will appear as a subtle green hue compared to clear glass. Your windscreen will have the same tint as your side windows. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre — they'll have the original specification on file.

    Replacement impact

Green-tinted replacement glass must match the original tint specification to maintain visual consistency across all windows and preserve the vehicle's interior aesthetics. Aftermarket OE-equivalent (OEE) green-tinted glass is widely available, though some vehicles may require original equipment (OEM) dealership glass if the tint specification is proprietary. Tint does not affect calibration, cure time, or installation procedure — it's a cosmetic and functional specification only.

  • Dark Green1
    2009–2020

Dark green tinted rear and side glass that's noticeably darker than the front windscreen but still see-through in daylight.

    What it means

Dark green tint is a factory-applied colour to the rear window and side windows on some vehicles. It serves both aesthetic and functional purposes: it reduces glare and heat from sunlight, provides a degree of privacy without completely obscuring the interior, and contributes to the vehicle's overall design. Unlike privacy glass (which is much darker and difficult to see through from outside), dark green tint maintains reasonable transparency while still offering a tinted appearance.

    How to tell

Look at your rear window and rear side windows in daylight. If they appear noticeably darker and greenish in tone compared to your front windscreen, you have dark green tint. The tint will be clearly visible when you look at the vehicle from outside, but you'll still be able to see through to the interior in normal daylight. Check your vehicle documentation or ask your dealership if you're uncertain.

    Replacement impact

Replacement glass must match the original dark green tint specification to maintain the vehicle's appearance and light-control properties. We source OEM or OE-equivalent tinted glass to the correct colour specification. Tinted glass is available from stock for most common vehicles, though lead times may occasionally be slightly longer than untinted variants. Installation and cure procedures are identical to standard glass; tint does not affect fitting time or drive-away windows.

  • Solar Control1
    2009–2020

Solar control glass absorbs infrared rays to reduce heat and improve cabin comfort.

    What it means

Solar control is a coating applied to the windscreen that absorbs the sun's infrared radiation rather than allowing it to pass through into the cabin. This reduces solar heat gain, helping to keep the interior cooler and more comfortable, particularly in warm weather or direct sunlight. The coating is transparent to visible light, so it doesn't darken the windscreen or affect visibility. It's a passive thermal management feature that works continuously whenever the sun is shining on the glass.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's specification sheet or contact your dealership service centre to confirm whether solar control glass is fitted. Some manufacturers list it as 'solar control windscreen', 'heat-reflective glass', or 'thermal management glass'. It's a factory-fitted feature and won't be visibly obvious from outside the car — the coating is integral to the glass itself.

    Replacement impact

Solar control glass is a factory-fitted specification. When replacing the windscreen, a solar control variant must be sourced to match the original. This is a standard glass type with no special fitting implications or calibration requirements. Cure and drive-away times follow normal windscreen bonding procedures. Confirm with your fitter that the replacement glass includes solar control to maintain the original thermal performance.

About the Ford Ka

The Ford Ka has been a familiar sight on UK roads since 1996, evolving through multiple generations with straightforward rear-window designs suited to its compact city-car brief.

Most Ka models carry toughened rear glass with a green tint — a subtle feature you'll notice when comparing the rear to the windscreen. Some higher-trim or later variants also carry integrated brake-light patterns in the glass, which must be matched exactly at replacement to keep the lighting circuit working correctly.

Ford's ADAS systems arrived on later Ka models, though rear-window replacement typically doesn't require calibration since cameras are mounted in the windscreen area. The main variable is whether your variant includes a brake-light integration or solar-control coating — both affect glass sourcing but not the fitting process itself.
