More professional than autoglass

Polite, prompt and efficient. Contacted Uk Car Glass and autoglass for quotes, autoglass were suppose to call with in a window and they didn’t, by the time they contacted me the job had been done.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Hyundai i40 windscreen replacement

Booking your i40 windscreen replacement through UKCG takes just a few clicks, then we match you with a local technician.

  1. 1

Use our online widget to confirm your i40's variant — takes about 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Complete your booking and provide your address or preferred workshop location.

  3. 3

Our parts-check team verify the exact glass specification for your model.

  4. 4

A technician near you is matched to your job and confirms the appointment.

  5. 5

On the day, the fitter replaces your windscreen; if your i40 has SmartSense, calibration is completed at a workshop to meet Hyundai's safety standards.

  6. 6

Your fitter confirms the drive-away time before you leave — typically a couple of hours wall-clock for the full job including any calibration.

Your replacement is covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and glass quality.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your i40?

Most i40 windscreen replacements can be arranged at your home or workplace on a mobile basis. However, if your model is equipped with Hyundai's SmartSense camera system, the entire job—including the replacement and static camera calibration—must take place at a workshop so the camera can be realigned using Hyundai diagnostic equipment and calibration targets.

This is a safety requirement: SmartSense systems must be correctly calibrated after windscreen replacement to function properly. Your technician will confirm whether your specific variant requires workshop calibration during the quote.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Defogging Detector2
    2011–2019

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2011–2019.

A defogging detector automatically clears condensation from your windscreen, improving visibility in damp conditions.

    What it means

A defogging detector is a sensor that monitors moisture levels on the windscreen and triggers the demister system automatically when condensation builds up. It improves driver visibility and safety in damp or cold weather by preventing manual intervention. The sensor typically sits near the rear-view mirror, positioned to sense moisture accumulation on the glass surface.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or ask your dealer's service centre whether your model includes an automatic defogging or moisture-sensing demister. Look near the rear-view mirror for a small sensor unit. Some vehicles display an indicator light or message on the dashboard when the system is active.

    Replacement impact

The defogging detector does not affect windscreen replacement or require recalibration after fitting. The sensor itself remains in place and continues to function once the new windscreen is installed. No additional calibration, cure time, or specialist procedures are needed.

  • Green2
    2011–2019

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2011–2019.

    What it means

A subtle green tint present on nearly all windscreens — part of the standard laminate and not easily spotted without careful inspection.

    On your Hyundai i40

Standard on all i40 models in our catalogue; confirmed during the quote.

  • Rain Sensor2
    2011–2019No calibration after replacement

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2011–2019; no calibration after replacement.

    What it means

An optical sensor mounted behind the windscreen that automatically activates your wipers when it detects rain.

    On your Hyundai i40

Present on many i40 variants, particularly from 2014 onwards; confirmed during the quote.

  • Solar Control2
    2011–2019

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2011–2019.

    What it means

Solar-coated glass that absorbs the sun's infrared rays, helping to keep the cabin cooler in warm weather.

    On your Hyundai i40

Present on most i40 models, particularly from the mid-2010s onwards; higher-specification trims are more likely to include this.

  • Vin Notch2
    2011–2019

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2011–2019.

A printed VIN reference box along the bottom edge of your windscreen helps identify your vehicle's chassis number at a glance.

    What it means

A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) notch is a small printed or etched box positioned along the lower edge of the windscreen that displays your vehicle's chassis number. This reference marking is a manufacturing and administrative feature, allowing quick visual identification of the vehicle without needing to consult documents. It's particularly useful for service records, insurance claims, and vehicle registration purposes. The notch itself doesn't affect the structural integrity or safety performance of the glass.

    How to tell

Look along the bottom edge of your windscreen — typically in one of the lower corners — for a small rectangular box containing printed digits or characters. If you're uncertain, check your vehicle's service handbook or ask your dealership or service centre to confirm whether your model includes this feature.

    Replacement impact

When your windscreen is replaced, the new glass will retain the VIN notch printed or etched by the manufacturer. This is a standard feature on replacement windscreens for compatible vehicles and requires no additional work or adjustment. The notch does not affect glass fitting, cure time, or any post-replacement calibration procedures.

  • Blue Sun Strip1
    2011–2019

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on 1 of the 2 windscreen variants we list (50%); model years 2011–2019.

    What it means

A blue-tinted gradient band running across the top of the windscreen that reduces glare from above without affecting your main field of view.

    On your Hyundai i40

Fitted on most i40 variants across both generations; confirmed during the quote process.

  • Heated Windscreen1
    2011–2018

On the Hyundai i40: fitted on 1 of the 2 windscreen variants we list (50%); model years 2011–2018.

    What it means

An integrated mesh of thin wires embedded in the glass that heat up to clear ice and condensation quickly.

    On your Hyundai i40

Found on mid-range and higher-specification i40 models; confirm whether your variant includes it during the quote.

About the Hyundai i40

The Hyundai i40 was produced from 2011 to 2019 as a midsize family saloon, spanning two generations with steady feature evolution. Early models carry straightforward laminated windscreens with green tint and a blue sun strip, while later variants introduced solar-control glass and heated windscreen options across the range.

From around the mid-2010s onwards, Hyundai's SmartSense ADAS suite began appearing on higher-specification models, bringing a front-facing mono camera mounted to the windscreen for lane-keeping and forward collision avoidance. Camera-equipped i40s require static calibration after windscreen replacement using Hyundai diagnostic equipment.
