BMW 3 Series windscreen price, by year

Prices vary significantly across the 3 Series range based on generation and specification. Older models without cameras or sensors are the most affordable; mid-generation variants with rain sensors add modest complexity; newer models equipped with Driving Assistant cameras and calibration systems command higher replacement costs due to recalibration requirements. Solar-control and acoustic options on premium trims also influence the final price.

Year Price range Quote

Go DIRECT and get it alot cheaper

this is a middle man organisation. the first quote i got was for over £500, the second quote £377. when the local chap arrived, i realised i'd been duped. and could have paid only £200 for the same job. UK Car Glass pay for advertising, so they come up top of the search, but if you are more discerning and have a little patience, you'll find a local tradesman who will do the job DIRECT. maybe then you save some money, and give him a tip and cut out the middle men. I think UK car glass are based in South Africa and are raking it in for being middle men. not cool

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your 3 Series?

The majority of 3 Series windscreen replacements can be completed at your home or workplace as a mobile visit. However, if your model is equipped with a front-facing camera and Driving Assistant package, static recalibration may be required in a controlled workshop environment using target boards. In such cases, UKCG books the entire job — replacement and calibration — at a single workshop location to ensure the safety-critical systems are properly recalibrated. Your fitter will confirm the location type at booking.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Clear8
    1983–2013Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 8 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (14%); model years 1983–2013; calibration varies by vehicle.

Clear windscreen glass has no tint; most cars have a slight tint as standard.

    What it means

A clear windscreen contains no added tint layer. Most modern windscreens incorporate a subtle tint (typically blue, green, grey or bronze) as standard to reduce glare, provide UV protection, and improve cabin comfort. A genuinely clear windscreen is the absence of this tint. Clear glass is less common than tinted variants and is sometimes specified for aesthetic or operational reasons, though the tint difference is usually imperceptible to the naked eye.

    How to tell

Lower your side window halfway and hold a white piece of paper behind it. If you see a noticeable colour cast (blue, green, grey or bronze) in the side glass, your windscreen has the same tint. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre to confirm the windscreen specification in your service records.

    Replacement impact

Clear windscreen replacement uses the same installation process as any other windscreen. No special calibration or extended cure time applies. Sourcing is straightforward — clear glass is widely available as an aftermarket replacement. Installation time and drive-away restrictions follow standard windscreen replacement timings. If your vehicle has ADAS features (forward-facing camera or radar), calibration may be required after replacement depending on your specific vehicle; we confirm this when we look up your car details.

    What it means

A special laminated PVB layer in the windscreen that absorbs engine and road noise, creating a quieter cabin.

    On your BMW 3 Series

Typically standard on newer-generation 3 Series models and commonly fitted to M Sport and Luxury trims; look for 'Acoustic' or 'SoundScreen' printed in the corner of your windscreen or confirmed during the quote.

  • Coating7
    1998–2013

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 7 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (12%); model years 1998–2013.

Coated windscreens have a blue or purple tint and protect your car from UV rays and heat.

    What it means

A coated windscreen has a special protective layer applied to the glass that appears as a blue or purple tint and often reflects a silvery-blue colour in bright sunlight. This coating is designed to reduce the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and solar heat that enters the vehicle, helping to keep the interior cooler and protecting upholstery and dashboard components from UV damage and fading. The coating is integral to the glass and doesn't require any special maintenance from you.

    How to tell

Look at your windscreen in bright daylight — a coated windscreen will show a distinct blue or purple tint and a silvery-blue reflection when the sun hits it directly. Check your vehicle's service booklet or window sticker (usually on the driver's door jamb), which may list the glass specification. Alternatively, ask your dealership or service centre to confirm whether your windscreen carries a UV or heat-rejection coating.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a coated windscreen, the replacement glass must match the original specification — including the coating type and tint level — to maintain the same UV and heat protection and to preserve the vehicle's interior aesthetics. Original-equipment or equivalent aftermarket coated glass is sourced to specification. The coating is applied during glass manufacture; no post-fit treatment is required. Fitting and cure times are unaffected by the presence of the coating.

  • Dynamic Camera Calibration Process7
    2012–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 7 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (12%); model years 2012–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

Dynamic calibration uses road driving to recalibrate your camera after windscreen replacement.

    What it means

Dynamic camera calibration is a procedure in which a technician drives the vehicle on marked roads at set speeds after the windscreen has been fitted and the adhesive has cured. During this drive, the forward-facing camera relearns its reference points — lane markings, road signs, road edges and surrounding traffic patterns — so it can resume accurate operation of camera-dependent safety and driver-assistance systems. This recalibration is necessary because any windscreen replacement, even with precision fitting, can introduce small shifts in the camera's optical alignment relative to the road.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealer to confirm whether your car has a forward-facing camera system. If it does, ask the dealer whether your specific model requires dynamic (road-drive) or static (target-board) calibration after windscreen replacement. You can also ask your fitter — they will establish this when they look up your vehicle's specification.

    Replacement impact

After your windscreen is fitted and the bonding has cured, a technician will drive the vehicle on marked roads at controlled speeds to allow the camera to relearn its environment. This extends the overall job duration beyond the glass-fitting time alone. Depending on your vehicle, calibration may be performed during the same visit or scheduled separately. We confirm the exact procedure and location (mobile or workshop) when we look up your specific vehicle.

  • Sensor Heated Zone7
    2012–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 7 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (12%); model years 2012–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

Heated zones around sensors prevent frost and moisture buildup, helping your safety systems work reliably.

    What it means

A sensor heated zone is an electrical heating element integrated into or around camera, radar, or sensor mounts on the windscreen. Its purpose is to prevent frost, ice, condensation, and moisture accumulation on sensor lenses and housings. This keeps safety systems — such as lane-keeping assist, collision warning, and adaptive cruise control — functioning accurately in cold, wet, or foggy conditions. Without this heating, moisture or ice can obscure sensors and cause them to malfunction or deactivate.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook for mention of 'heated sensor zone' or 'sensor heating' in the windscreen or ADAS section. Look at the top edge of your windscreen where cameras or radar modules are mounted — you may see small heating elements or wiring near these components. Ask your dealership or service centre directly: they can confirm whether your specific model includes sensor heating as standard.

    Replacement impact

Windscreens with heated sensor zones require careful handling during replacement to preserve the heating element and its electrical connections. The heating circuit must be reconnected properly after the new glass is fitted. Depending on the vehicle, this may involve static or dynamic camera calibration after installation. We confirm the exact procedure — including any calibration needs — when we look up your vehicle details.

  • Grey Sun Strip5
    2005–2013

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 5 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (8%); model years 2005–2013.

A grey-tinted band across the top of your windscreen that reduces glare from sunlight and reflections above.

    What it means

A grey sun strip is a tinted gradient band built into the top edge of the windscreen during manufacture. It sits within the laminated glass layers and gradually fades from opaque grey at the very top to clear further down. The strip is designed to reduce glare and reflections from sunlight, street lights, and oncoming headlights, improving comfort and visibility for the driver without obstructing the view of traffic signals or overhead hazards. Sun strips are a factory-applied feature unique to windscreens—they cannot be added to side or rear glass because those are typically toughened rather than laminated.

    How to tell

Look at the top of your windscreen from inside the vehicle. You will see a grey-tinted band that fades to clear glass. The tint is gradual and integral to the glass itself, not a removable film or coating. Your vehicle's service records or handbook may also list it as a standard feature. If unsure, ask your dealer or service centre whether your specific model includes a sun strip.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with a sun strip, the replacement glass must be sourced in the exact matching variant—including the sun-strip tint and fade profile. Aftermarket and OE glass are both available for most vehicles, but the variant must be correct to match your original. There is no calibration required for the sun strip itself. If your windscreen also carries camera or sensor features, those will be calibrated separately according to your vehicle's needs.

  • HUD - Head Up Display5
    2012–2026No calibration after replacement

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 5 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (8%); model years 2012–2026; no calibration after replacement.

A Head-Up Display projects your speed, navigation cues and key alerts onto the windscreen so you can read them without looking down.

    What it means

A Head-Up Display (HUD) projects driving information — speed, navigation cues, ADAS alerts — onto the windscreen in your line of sight, so you can read it without taking your eyes off the road. The projector is mounted in the dashboard and shines the image upwards onto a special HUD-compatible windscreen that uses a wedge-shaped laminate to prevent a ghost image. Common on premium and sports models, increasingly standard on mid-range cars from the 2020s onwards.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's specification sheet or handbook under 'display features' or 'HUD'. Look for a small projector unit mounted on the dashboard, typically below the steering wheel or in the instrument cluster area. When you start the vehicle, a bright image should appear on the lower windscreen area. Your dealer's service centre can confirm whether your specific model and trim level includes a HUD.

    Replacement impact

Your replacement windscreen needs to be HUD-compatible — built with the correct wedge laminate so the projected image stays sharp and double-free. Once the HUD-compatible glass is fitted, the projector itself typically doesn't need recalibration: image position is user-adjustable via your dashboard controls. We confirm your vehicle uses the HUD-compatible windscreen variant when ordering, so the replacement matches the original.

  • Mono Camera5
    2012–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 5 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (8%); model years 2012–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

A single camera mounted near the rear-view mirror that helps with lane-keeping and collision avoidance.

    What it means

A mono camera is a single-lens camera positioned behind the windscreen, typically in the upper centre area near the rear-view mirror. It captures the road ahead and uses computer vision to detect lane markings, vehicles, and road hazards. The camera feeds data to driver-assistance systems such as lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. It forms the visual foundation of these safety features, allowing the vehicle to monitor road position and surrounding traffic automatically.

    How to tell

Look in the black trim area above the windscreen, centred behind the rear-view mirror — you will see a small triangular lens assembly or dark lens cover. Check your vehicle handbook or ask your dealer's service department to confirm your model has lane-assistance or collision-warning features; vehicles with these systems almost always have a mono camera. Dashboard warning symbols related to lane or collision systems also indicate the presence of this camera.

    Replacement impact

When the windscreen is replaced, the camera bracket and lens assembly must be removed and carefully repositioned on the new glass. The camera may require calibration after fitting to ensure accurate road detection and lane recognition. Calibration needs vary by vehicle — we confirm the exact procedure when we look up your specific vehicle. The job may take longer than a standard windscreen replacement, and workshop facilities may be required if calibration demands a controlled environment.

  • Dark Grey Sun Strip3
    2006–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 3 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (5%); model years 2006–2026.

A dark-grey tinted band runs across the top of your windscreen to reduce glare from the sun.

    What it means

A dark-grey sun strip is a gradient-tinted band integrated into the windscreen's laminate layer at the top edge. It reduces glare and heat from direct sunlight without compromising visibility. Sun strips are a windscreen-only feature because they are built into the polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer during manufacture — toughened side and rear glass cannot incorporate them. The dark-grey variant is a factory specification on certain vehicles, chosen for its aesthetic match to the original finish and optical properties.

    How to tell

Look at the top edge of your windscreen from outside the vehicle. You will see a dark-grey gradient band running horizontally across the width. If your original windscreen has this dark tint (rather than the standard lighter grey), your replacement must match it. Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealer's service department to confirm the sun strip colour specification for your model.

    Replacement impact

Replacement windscreens with a dark-grey sun strip must be sourced to the exact factory specification. The tint is integral to the laminate and cannot be added or modified after manufacture. Your fitter will confirm the correct variant is in stock before fitting. The dark-grey specification may have a longer lead time than standard grey; we will advise at quote if any delay is expected. Installation and cure procedures are identical to standard windscreens.

  • Camera2
    2019–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 2 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (3%); model years 2019–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

A camera mounted near the rear-view mirror monitors the road ahead for lane-keep and traffic-sign features.

    What it means

A forward-facing camera positioned in the windscreen header area (typically mounted on or near the rear-view mirror bracket) captures video of the road ahead. This camera feeds data to driver-assistance systems such as lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition. The camera is a core component of modern ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and requires precise alignment after windscreen replacement to ensure these safety features function correctly.

    How to tell

Look for a small dark triangular or lens-shaped component mounted in the black plastic trim area above the windscreen, typically centred near the rear-view mirror or slightly to one side. Your vehicle's handbook or infotainment menu may reference 'Lane Assist', 'Traffic Sign Recognition', or 'Autonomous Emergency Braking'. Ask your dealer or service centre directly if your car is equipped with a forward-facing camera system.

    Replacement impact

Windscreen replacement on camera-equipped vehicles requires calibration of the camera system after the new glass is fitted. The exact calibration procedure—whether static (using a target board in a controlled environment) or dynamic (road-based)—varies by vehicle make, model, and year. We confirm the precise calibration requirement when we look up your specific vehicle. Calibration ensures lane-keep, sign recognition, and emergency-braking systems function safely. This may extend the fitting schedule and may necessitate workshop-based fitting rather than mobile attendance.

Three forward-facing cameras mounted behind the windscreen provide multi-range vision for advanced driver assistance.

    What it means

A triple-camera system is a forward-sensing array consisting of three separate camera modules positioned behind the windscreen, typically mounted around the rear-view mirror area. Each camera has a different focal length — narrow, main, and wide — allowing the system to monitor the road at different distances simultaneously. This multi-camera approach enables advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, collision avoidance, and traffic sign recognition to operate more reliably across a wider field of view and range than a single camera could achieve. The system is a core component of modern vehicle safety and autonomous driving capability.

    How to tell

Look at the windscreen around the rear-view mirror area — you'll see three distinct triangular shapes printed in the black frit (the opaque band around the glass edge). These are the camera housings. Alternatively, check your vehicle documentation or ask your dealer's service centre; they can confirm whether your model is equipped with triple-camera vision.

    Replacement impact

Triple-camera systems require a precision-engineered bracket and a specifically printed glass variant to align the three optical centres correctly. After windscreen replacement, the camera system may require static or dynamic calibration depending on your vehicle's design — we confirm the exact calibration procedure when we look up your specific vehicle. The replacement glass must be OEM or OEM-equivalent to ensure optical accuracy and system functionality. Calibration restores the cameras' ability to detect road hazards and maintain driver assistance feature performance.

  • Blue Sun Strip1
    1983–1995

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 1 of the 59 windscreen variants we list (2%); model years 1983–1995.

A blue-tinted gradient band across the top of your windscreen that reduces glare without affecting your view of the road.

    What it means

A blue sun strip is a tinted gradient band built into the upper edge of your windscreen's laminate layer. It reduces glare from sunlight reflecting off the road and bonnet without darkening your main field of vision. The tint is created during manufacture as part of the glass laminate itself — it cannot be added or removed later. Sun strips are a windscreen-only feature; rear and side windows cannot carry this effect because they use tempered rather than laminated glass.

    How to tell

Look at the top of your windscreen from inside the car — you'll see a distinct blue-tinted band running horizontally across the upper portion. Check your vehicle's specification sheet or ask your dealership service centre whether your windscreen is listed as a 'blue sun strip' or 'tinted sun strip' variant. Your invoice or parts manual will confirm it.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with a blue sun strip, the replacement must be the sun-strip variant — a standard plain windscreen will not replicate the tinted band. Your replacement glass is sourced as an exact match to your original specification. There are no additional calibration or cure implications beyond a standard windscreen replacement. Fitting and drive-away times remain unchanged.

About the BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series has been a cornerstone of the compact executive class since 1991, spanning six generations from the E36 through to today's G20. Early models carried straightforward laminated windscreens with a VIN notch at the base, while later generations introduced green-tinted glass, rain sensors, and acoustic lamination for noise reduction.

From the mid-2010s onwards, the 3 Series began integrating forward-facing cameras as part of BMW's Driving Assistant package, mounting single or multiple cameras behind the windscreen. Today's models frequently feature camera brackets, heated sensor zones, and solar-control glass on higher trims, all of which require specialist recalibration after replacement.

Some BMW 3 Series windscreens carry a camera that may need recalibrating after fitting. Read about ADAS calibration.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

If your model is equipped with a front-facing camera and Driving Assistant package, yes — recalibration is essential for lane-departure warning and related safety systems to function correctly. The technician will complete this as part of the job, either through static calibration (using target boards in a workshop) or dynamic calibration (gentle road testing at set speeds).

Older 3 Series models without cameras do not require recalibration. Your quote will specify whether recalibration is needed for your variant.

Yes — if your model is equipped with a rain sensor integrated into the windscreen, the replacement glass will include it, and the technician will ensure it's properly aligned during fitting. Recalibration of the sensor (often linked to the camera system on newer 3 Series) is completed as part of the job if required.

The vast majority of 3 Series models — about 85% of variants in our catalogue — come with a subtle green tint as factory standard. Clear (untinted) windscreens are rare on the 3 Series. Your replacement will match your car's original specification, confirmed during the quote process.

A non-ADAS replacement typically takes 45–90 minutes of the technician's time, depending on your specific model and any trim complexity. If your 3 Series has a Driving Assistant camera system, the job runs longer because static calibration is completed after the glass is set. Your fitter will confirm the total duration before starting and provide a specific drive-away time, which is typically the same regardless of whether calibration is involved.
