Ford Escort windscreen price, by year

Pricing varies with generation and feature availability. Early-1970s and 1980s Escorts without heated glass or sun strips are typically the most affordable, whilst later 1990s models carrying optional heated windscreens or specialised tinting command higher costs. The presence of a VIN notch (standard on many mid-to-late variants) doesn't materially affect pricing but is factored into the parts match during your quote.

Year Price range Quote
2001 £410 — £614 Price my 2001
2000 £410 — £614 Price my 2000
1999 £410 — £614 Price my 1999
1998 £410 — £614 Price my 1998
1997 £410 — £614 Price my 1997
1996 £410 — £614 Price my 1996
1995 £410 — £614 Price my 1995

The displayed range is an indicator — the final price is produced by the quote form after you confirm your variant. Older Ford Escort models can still be booked.

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

More professional than autoglass

Polite, prompt and efficient. Contacted Uk Car Glass and autoglass for quotes, autoglass were suppose to call with in a window and they didn’t, by the time they contacted me the job had been done.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Ford Escort windscreen replacement

Booking your Ford Escort windscreen replacement is straightforward, from instant quote through to fitting.

  1. 1

Take our online quiz to identify your variant — the system will ask about your Escort's year, body style, and visible glass features like sun strips or heating elements.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote tailored to your exact specification — windscreen type, tint, and any optional features are confirmed.

  3. 3

Choose your fitting date and location (mobile at your address or at a workshop near you).

  4. 4

A fitter from our network of approved specialists will collect the correct glass, arrive on your chosen date, and typically complete the replacement in 45–90 minutes of active work.

  5. 5

Your fitter will confirm the drive-away time before leaving — modern adhesives used on all variants cure quickly, so you're usually mobile the same day.

  6. 6

Enjoy two years' warranty on workmanship and glass quality, backed by our support team.

From quote to fitted windscreen, the entire process is built for speed and transparency.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Escort?

Most Ford Escort windscreen replacements — especially on earlier variants without heated glass — can be fitted at your home or workplace via mobile appointment. Since no Escort variant features ADAS cameras or calibration requirements, there's no technical reason to visit a workshop.

You're welcome to choose a workshop fitting if you prefer a controlled environment or if weather on the day is poor. Either way, the job typically completes within a couple of hours, and your fitter will confirm the exact drive-away time before leaving.

What features does your Escort have?

Tap a feature to see what it is, how to spot it on your car, and how it affects glass replacement. We confirm the exact match for your vehicle when you book.

  • Green7
    1975–2001

On the Ford Escort: fitted on 7 of the 11 windscreen variants we list (64%); model years 1975–2001.

    What it means

A subtle green tint in the glass, nearly invisible to the eye but engineered into about 90% of windscreens to reduce glare and UV transmission.

    On your Ford Escort

Present on most Escort variants from the 1980s onwards; confirmed during the quote process if your variant carries it.

  • Vin Notch5
    1991–2001

On the Ford Escort: fitted on 5 of the 11 windscreen variants we list (45%); model years 1991–2001.

    What it means

A small box or indent along the bottom edge of the windscreen that displays the vehicle's chassis number for easy identification.

    On your Ford Escort

Standard on many mid-to-late Escort models from the 1990s forward; your fitter will verify presence at the parts check.

  • Blue Sun Strip4
    1975–2001

On the Ford Escort: fitted on 4 of the 11 windscreen variants we list (36%); model years 1975–2001.

    What it means

A blue-tinted gradient band running across the top of the windscreen that reduces glare from above without affecting the driver's forward view. This feature is built into the laminate and cannot be added to a plain windscreen.

    On your Ford Escort

Present on roughly one in three Escort variants, typically higher-specification models; confirmed during the quote.

  • Clear3
    1976–2001Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Ford Escort: fitted on 3 of the 11 windscreen variants we list (27%); model years 1976–2001; calibration varies by vehicle.

    What it means

A windscreen with no tint — entirely transparent. Most cars have a subtle tint that owners don't notice, so a genuinely clear windscreen is less common.

    On your Ford Escort

Found on a minority of earlier Escort models; the parts check will confirm whether your variant uses clear or tinted glass.

  • Heated Windscreen2
    1991–2001

On the Ford Escort: fitted on 2 of the 11 windscreen variants we list (18%); model years 1991–2001.

    What it means

An integrated heating element — a mesh of thin wires embedded in the laminate — that heats the windscreen to clear frost and condensation quickly.

    On your Ford Escort

An optional feature on selected later-model Escorts (particularly 1990s–2001 variants with higher trim levels); your quiz will establish whether your car carries this option.

  • Bronze1
    1980–1990

On the Ford Escort: fitted on 1 of the 11 windscreen variants we list (9%); model years 1980–1990.

Bronze tint reduces glare and heat whilst maintaining a warm aesthetic that complements most vehicle interiors.

    What it means

Bronze tint is a coloured coating applied to the windscreen during manufacture to reduce solar heat transmission and glare from sunlight. It's one of several standard tint options (alongside green, grey, and blue) offered by most vehicle makers. The tint doesn't impair visibility but gives the glass a warm, brownish appearance when viewed from outside. Most modern vehicles have some form of windscreen tint as standard—it's rarely a clear, untinted windscreen.

    How to tell

Roll down a side window halfway and hold a white piece of paper behind the glass from outside. If you see a bronze or warm-brown tint in the side window, your windscreen carries the same tint. Alternatively, ask your vehicle's dealer or service centre for the original windscreen specification—they can confirm the tint colour code. Most documentation refers to it as 'bronze' or occasionally 'warm bronze'.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with bronze tint, the replacement glass must match the original tint specification exactly. Fitting an untinted or differently tinted windscreen will create a noticeable colour mismatch with the side windows and alter the vehicle's interior light and thermal characteristics. We confirm the exact tint code from your vehicle's records and source an OE-equivalent or OEM glass to preserve the original appearance and performance.

About the Ford Escort

The Ford Escort is one of Britain's best-loved cars, with continuous production from 1975 to 2001 across five distinct generations. Early Escorts carried straightforward laminated windscreens with minimal features, while later models — particularly those from the 1990s onwards — introduced green-tinted glass, VIN notches along the bottom edge, and optional blue sun strips to reduce glare from above.

By the late 1990s and early 2000s, some higher-spec variants gained heated windscreens for winter demisting. Across the full production run, no Escort variants feature the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) seen on modern Fords, so windscreen replacement is straightforward calibration-free work.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

No. The Escort production run (1975–2001) predates Ford's Co-Pilot360 driver-assistance systems, so no variants carry windscreen cameras or require recalibration. Replacement is straightforward.

The blue sun strip is a blue-tinted band across the top of the windscreen, built into the laminate during manufacture to reduce glare from above. If your Escort originally had one, the replacement must be the sun-strip variant — a plain windscreen won't have the band. The quiz will establish whether your model carries this feature.

Heated windscreens are an optional feature found on some later Escort models, particularly higher-trim variants from the 1990s onwards. Earlier Escorts and base-spec models typically don't have them. Your quote will confirm whether your variant is equipped with heating.

The VIN notch — the small box at the bottom showing your chassis number — is a factory specification on many mid-to-late Escort variants. Our parts team verifies presence during the quote, and the replacement glass will match your original specification. If your Escort originally had a notch, your replacement will too.
