Volkswagen ID.4 windscreen price, by year

Price variation on the ID.4 is modest because all variants carry the same core windscreen specification — camera, heated coating, rain sensor, and VIN notch are standard across the model line. Variation comes from minor differences in the bracket trim or calibration complexity per variant, but the underlying glass remains consistent.

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

More professional than autoglass

Polite, prompt and efficient. Contacted Uk Car Glass and autoglass for quotes, autoglass were suppose to call with in a window and they didn’t, by the time they contacted me the job had been done.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Volkswagen ID.4 windscreen replacement

Booking your ID.4 windscreen is straightforward — a quick online quote leads to a workshop appointment where replacement and calibration happen in a single visit.

  1. 1

Answer a short quiz about your ID.4 (year, trim, features) to generate an instant quote — takes about a minute.

  2. 2

Proceed to checkout and choose your appointment date and time — most slots fill within the week.

  3. 3

On the day, your matched technician removes the old windscreen, transfers the camera bracket and trim cover to the new glass, and sets it in place.

  4. 4

Static camera calibration runs while the adhesive cures — the technician uses target boards in the workshop to ensure the camera alignment is precise.

  5. 5

Your fitter confirms the drive-away time before you leave — typically the same as a non-ADAS windscreen job because calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure.

  6. 6

Your replacement is covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and glass quality.

All ID.4 windscreens are booked and fitted through our network of trusted local technicians, each vetted for ADAS calibration competency.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your ID.4?

Every ID.4 windscreen replacement includes static camera calibration, which requires a workshop environment with calibration target boards. Your fitter cannot perform this critical safety work on a mobile basis at your home or car park.

The entire job — glass replacement and calibration — is scheduled at one workshop location. This keeps you in one place and ensures the calibration is completed correctly before you drive away.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

What features does your ID.4 have?

Tap a feature to see what it is, how to spot it on your car, and how it affects glass replacement. We confirm the exact match for your vehicle when you book.

  • Acoustic (Noise reduction)2
    2020–2026

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2020–2026.

Acoustic glass reduces cabin noise for a quieter, more comfortable ride.

    What it means

Acoustic windscreen glass is laminated with a special acoustic interlayer that absorbs and dampens sound vibrations. It reduces exterior noise—from traffic, wind, and road surface—before it enters the passenger compartment. This makes the cabin noticeably quieter and creates a more peaceful driving experience. It's a comfort feature, not a safety one; standard laminated windscreens already meet impact safety requirements.

    How to tell

Check your windscreen for an ear symbol, the word 'Acoustic', a capital 'A', or the term 'SoundScreen' printed in one of the four corners. These markings indicate acoustic-grade glass. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre whether your model came fitted with acoustic glass—it's often a factory option on comfort or premium trims.

    Replacement impact

Acoustic glass is always laminated and bonds to the frame like any standard windscreen, so replacement follows the normal bonded-glass procedure. No specialist calibration is required. The replacement technician will fit it using standard adhesive and sealant. Cure time and drive-away restrictions are identical to standard laminated windscreens. Acoustic glass is widely available as an aftermarket OE-equivalent option.

  • Coating2
    2020–2026

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2020–2026.

Coated windscreens have a blue or purple tint and protect your car from UV rays and heat.

    What it means

A coated windscreen has a special protective layer applied to the glass that appears as a blue or purple tint and often reflects a silvery-blue colour in bright sunlight. This coating is designed to reduce the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and solar heat that enters the vehicle, helping to keep the interior cooler and protecting upholstery and dashboard components from UV damage and fading. The coating is integral to the glass and doesn't require any special maintenance from you.

    How to tell

Look at your windscreen in bright daylight — a coated windscreen will show a distinct blue or purple tint and a silvery-blue reflection when the sun hits it directly. Check your vehicle's service booklet or window sticker (usually on the driver's door jamb), which may list the glass specification. Alternatively, ask your dealership or service centre to confirm whether your windscreen carries a UV or heat-rejection coating.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a coated windscreen, the replacement glass must match the original specification — including the coating type and tint level — to maintain the same UV and heat protection and to preserve the vehicle's interior aesthetics. Original-equipment or equivalent aftermarket coated glass is sourced to specification. The coating is applied during glass manufacture; no post-fit treatment is required. Fitting and cure times are unaffected by the presence of the coating.

  • Heated Coating2
    2020–2026

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2020–2026.

    What it means

A transparent conductive layer across the windscreen that heats evenly to defrost and demist — different from visible wire filaments.

    On your Volkswagen ID.4

Standard on all ID.4 models since launch — essential for electric vehicle cold-weather performance.

  • Heat Reflective2
    2020–2026

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2020–2026.

Heat-reflective tinting reduces solar gain and cabin temperature, often visible as a darker shade near the windscreen's top edge.

    What it means

Heat-reflective tinting is a specially formulated layer applied to the windscreen—usually concentrated in the upper band near the black dots (the frit)—designed to reflect solar radiation and reduce heat buildup inside the vehicle. This helps maintain cabin comfort, reduces air-conditioning load, and can protect interior materials from UV damage. The tint is typically darker or noticeably different in colour than the front side windows, which remain clear or lightly tinted.

    How to tell

Look at your windscreen from inside the vehicle and compare the tint colour to your front side windows. Heat-reflective windscreens often have a visibly darker or warmer tone, especially in the upper portion within 2 cm of the black-dot edge (the frit). You can also check your vehicle's specification sheet or ask your dealership service centre whether your model includes heat-reflective glazing.

    Replacement impact

Replacement windscreens with heat-reflective tinting must be sourced to the exact specification of your original glass—aftermarket equivalents are available but must match the tint density and reflective properties. The tinting is integral to the glass itself and cannot be applied afterwards. No calibration is required. The windscreen is bonded in place and cure time applies as standard.

  • Rain Sensor2
    2020–2026No calibration after replacement

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2020–2026; no calibration after replacement.

    What it means

An optical sensor that detects moisture on the windscreen and automatically activates your wipers in wet conditions.

    On your Volkswagen ID.4

Standard across the entire ID.4 range — confirmed during your quote.

  • Vin Notch2
    2020–2026

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on every one of the 2 windscreen variants we list; model years 2020–2026.

    What it means

A small rectangular box along the bottom edge of the windscreen displaying your vehicle's VIN (chassis number) for identification.

    On your Volkswagen ID.4

Located at the bottom of the windscreen — present on all ID.4 models from 2020 onwards.

  • Bracket For Safety Features1
    2020–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on 1 of the 2 windscreen variants we list (50%); model years 2020–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

    What it means

The moulded plastic shroud that surrounds the camera and sensor cluster at the top of the windscreen — transferred from your old glass or supplied new.

    On your Volkswagen ID.4

Visible as a black trim cover around the rear-view mirror area — standard on all ID.4 variants.

  • Heated Windscreen1
    2020–2026

On the Volkswagen ID.4: fitted on 1 of the 2 windscreen variants we list (50%); model years 2020–2026.

Heated windscreens use embedded wires to quickly clear ice and condensation in cold weather.

    What it means

A heated windscreen is integrated with a fine mesh of electrical wires embedded within the glass itself. When activated, these wires generate heat to warm the windscreen surface, helping to rapidly clear frost, ice, and condensation during cold or damp conditions. This feature improves visibility and safety in winter driving and reduces reliance on engine heat and demister air, which can be slower on very cold mornings.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealership service centre — they can confirm whether your model includes this feature. Look for a dashboard symbol (usually a windscreen icon with heat waves) when you activate the function, or check your infotainment settings for a heating or climate option linked to the windscreen. Some vehicles have a dedicated button on the stalk or console.

    Replacement impact

Heated windscreens require replacement glass to be of the correct heated specification — standard unheated glass cannot be fitted. The replacement glass must be sourced to match your vehicle's exact heated-wire configuration. Installation is straightforward, though the technician will confirm the heating element is functioning correctly after fitting. No calibration is required for this feature.

About the Volkswagen ID.4

The Volkswagen ID.4 is a fully electric SUV launched in 2020, built on the MEB platform dedicated to electric vehicles. All variants from the outset feature a camera and rain sensor integrated into the windscreen, alongside a heated coating for frost and condensation management.

Because every ID.4 in our catalogue includes these advanced features — camera bracket, heated glass, and rain sensor — windscreen replacement is always a calibration-involved job. The fitter will need to complete static camera calibration after the glass is fitted, which means the job is handled at a workshop location to ensure precise alignment.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

Your ID.4's camera supports lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control. When the windscreen is replaced, the camera's view of the road changes, so it must be recalibrated to the new glass to maintain safety system accuracy.

Calibration is completed at the workshop after the glass is fitted, using a series of target boards to realign the camera. This is a one-time process per replacement and is included in your booking.

Calibration does add to the fitter's working time on the day — expect the whole job to take longer than a non-ADAS windscreen replacement. However, calibration does not add to your drive-away time because it runs in parallel with the adhesive cure whilst you wait.

As for cost, any calibration complexity is reflected in the quote you receive at booking time. Your fitter will confirm the final drive-away time before releasing your car.

No — static camera calibration requires workshop facilities, target boards, and a controlled environment. Your appointment is scheduled at a workshop, where both the glass replacement and calibration are completed in one visit.
