Volkswagen Crafter windscreen price, by year

Prices vary primarily with generation and ADAS equipment. Older Crafters without camera systems are typically the most economical to replace, while newer variants with forward-facing cameras incur calibration costs.

Encapsulated trim — where the rubber gasket arrives bonded to the glass — adds complexity but streamlines the fit. Higher-spec models with heated windscreens or acoustic interlayers also influence the final quote.

Year Price range Quote
2026 £348 — £885 Price my 2026
2025 £348 — £885 Price my 2025

2020 £348 — £885 Price my 2020

The displayed range is an indicator — the final price is produced by the quote form after you confirm your variant. Older Volkswagen Crafter models can still be booked.

Great job but better communication would be helpful....

The fitter was very professional and the job was done quickly and efficiently. My only complaint is prior to booking it states you will be told a two hour slot the day before. Post booking this was changed to you will be given a call 30 mins before. On the day no notification was provided except for after I contacted the fitter who said they would be there in 30 mins - they turned up 5 mins later. So great job but better communication would be helpful.

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Volkswagen Crafter windscreen replacement

Booking a Crafter windscreen replacement through UK Car Glass is straightforward and typically completes within a couple of hours.

  1. 1

Answer a quick quiz on our website to confirm your model year, trim, and features — takes about a minute.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote and choose your fitting date and location (mobile at your premises or at a workshop).

  3. 3

If your Crafter has a forward-facing camera, we'll schedule the job at a workshop so calibration can be completed after the glass is set.

  4. 4

On fitting day, your fitter checks the parts match your specification, fits the replacement windscreen, and confirms the drive-away time before leaving.

  5. 5

If calibration is needed, it's performed in parallel with adhesive cure, so you can drive away at the same time as a non-ADAS job.

Your replacement glass is covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and manufacturing defects.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Crafter?

Most Crafter windscreen replacements can be fitted mobile at your premises. However, if your variant is equipped with a forward-facing camera for driver assistance, the job is scheduled at a workshop instead.

This is because static camera calibration — aligning the camera to manufacturer specification using diagnostic equipment and printed targets — must be completed indoors in a controlled environment. The entire job (replacement and calibration) stays at one location so you don't need to return elsewhere, and calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure, so drive-away time remains unchanged.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Green11
    2006–2026

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 11 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (92%); model years 2006–2026.

    What it means

A subtle greenish tint in the glass that reduces glare and UV transmission — standard on nearly all Crafter variants.

    On your Volkswagen Crafter

Visible when you look at the windscreen edge-on in daylight; most owners don't notice it. Confirmed during the quote process.

  • Solar Control11
    2006–2026

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 11 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (92%); model years 2006–2026.

    What it means

The windscreen absorbs the sun's infrared rays to reduce cabin heat, particularly useful on a commercial vehicle spending long hours in daylight.

    On your Volkswagen Crafter

Standard across nearly all Crafter models from 2006 onwards; confirmed during the quote.

  • Rain Sensor7
    2006–2026No calibration after replacement

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 7 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (58%); model years 2006–2026; no calibration after replacement.

    What it means

An electronic sensor that automatically activates your wipers when it detects rain, without manual input.

    On your Volkswagen Crafter

Common on mid-range and higher-spec Crafters from around the mid-2010s onwards; your quote confirms if your variant has it.

  • Vin Notch7
    2017–2026

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 7 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (58%); model years 2017–2026.

A printed VIN reference box along the bottom edge of your windscreen helps identify your vehicle's chassis number at a glance.

    What it means

A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) notch is a small printed or etched box positioned along the lower edge of the windscreen that displays your vehicle's chassis number. This reference marking is a manufacturing and administrative feature, allowing quick visual identification of the vehicle without needing to consult documents. It's particularly useful for service records, insurance claims, and vehicle registration purposes. The notch itself doesn't affect the structural integrity or safety performance of the glass.

    How to tell

Look along the bottom edge of your windscreen — typically in one of the lower corners — for a small rectangular box containing printed digits or characters. If you're uncertain, check your vehicle's service handbook or ask your dealership or service centre to confirm whether your model includes this feature.

    Replacement impact

When your windscreen is replaced, the new glass will retain the VIN notch printed or etched by the manufacturer. This is a standard feature on replacement windscreens for compatible vehicles and requires no additional work or adjustment. The notch does not affect glass fitting, cure time, or any post-replacement calibration procedures.

  • Bracket For Safety Features5
    2017–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 5 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (42%); model years 2017–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

The moulded trim that surrounds your camera and sensor cluster at the top of the windscreen, typically transferred or supplied with replacement glass.

    What it means

A bracket for safety features is the moulded plastic or composite shroud that sits at the top of the windscreen, framing and protecting the camera and sensor cluster mounted behind the rear-view mirror. This trim cover houses forward-facing driver-assistance cameras and sensors — equipment that monitors the road ahead for lane-keeping, collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and similar safety functions. The bracket itself is part of the vehicle's structural frame, but the trim cover you see is what protects and aesthetically integrates the technology into the windscreen area.

    How to tell

Look at the top centre of your windscreen, just above or around the rear-view mirror. If you see a dark moulded shroud or trim panel — often rectangular or tapered — with a visible lens or sensor window, your vehicle has a bracket for safety features. Your service history or handbook will list any ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technologies fitted. Ask your dealer or service centre if your vehicle has forward-facing cameras or sensors; if it does, you have a bracket for safety features.

    Replacement impact

On windscreen replacement, the trim cover is typically transferred from your old glass to the new one, or supplied pre-integrated with the replacement depending on the variant. This means minimal disruption to your safety system during the swap. However, if the bracket requires recalibration after glass replacement — which depends on your specific vehicle and camera type — the job may require static calibration (using a target board) or dynamic calibration (a road drive). We confirm the exact calibration procedure when we look up your vehicle.

Heated zones around sensors prevent frost and moisture buildup, helping your safety systems work reliably.

    What it means

A sensor heated zone is an electrical heating element integrated into or around camera, radar, or sensor mounts on the windscreen. Its purpose is to prevent frost, ice, condensation, and moisture accumulation on sensor lenses and housings. This keeps safety systems — such as lane-keeping assist, collision warning, and adaptive cruise control — functioning accurately in cold, wet, or foggy conditions. Without this heating, moisture or ice can obscure sensors and cause them to malfunction or deactivate.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook for mention of 'heated sensor zone' or 'sensor heating' in the windscreen or ADAS section. Look at the top edge of your windscreen where cameras or radar modules are mounted — you may see small heating elements or wiring near these components. Ask your dealership or service centre directly: they can confirm whether your specific model includes sensor heating as standard.

    Replacement impact

Windscreens with heated sensor zones require careful handling during replacement to preserve the heating element and its electrical connections. The heating circuit must be reconnected properly after the new glass is fitted. Depending on the vehicle, this may involve static or dynamic camera calibration after installation. We confirm the exact procedure — including any calibration needs — when we look up your vehicle details.

  • Static Camera Calibration Process5
    2017–2026Static calibration required

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 5 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (42%); model years 2017–2026; static calibration required.

    What it means

A precision procedure performed indoors after windscreen replacement, using printed targets to align the forward camera to manufacturer tolerances.

    On your Volkswagen Crafter

Required on Crafters equipped with forward-facing cameras; the fitting is scheduled at a workshop where this equipment is available.

  • Blue Sun Strip3
    2006–2026

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 3 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (25%); model years 2006–2026.

A blue-tinted gradient band across the top of your windscreen that reduces glare without affecting your view of the road.

    What it means

A blue sun strip is a tinted gradient band built into the upper edge of your windscreen's laminate layer. It reduces glare from sunlight reflecting off the road and bonnet without darkening your main field of vision. The tint is created during manufacture as part of the glass laminate itself — it cannot be added or removed later. Sun strips are a windscreen-only feature; rear and side windows cannot carry this effect because they use tempered rather than laminated glass.

    How to tell

Look at the top of your windscreen from inside the car — you'll see a distinct blue-tinted band running horizontally across the upper portion. Check your vehicle's specification sheet or ask your dealership service centre whether your windscreen is listed as a 'blue sun strip' or 'tinted sun strip' variant. Your invoice or parts manual will confirm it.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with a blue sun strip, the replacement must be the sun-strip variant — a standard plain windscreen will not replicate the tinted band. Your replacement glass is sourced as an exact match to your original specification. There are no additional calibration or cure implications beyond a standard windscreen replacement. Fitting and drive-away times remain unchanged.

  • Heated Windscreen3
    2006–2026

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 3 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (25%); model years 2006–2026.

    What it means

An embedded mesh of thin wires that heat up to demist or defrost the windscreen quickly in cold conditions.

    On your Volkswagen Crafter

Found on higher-spec or winter-market Crafters; your quote process identifies whether your variant includes it.

  • Mono Camera3
    2017–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Volkswagen Crafter: fitted on 3 of the 12 windscreen variants we list (25%); model years 2017–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

A single camera mounted near the rear-view mirror that helps with lane-keeping and collision avoidance.

    What it means

A mono camera is a single-lens camera positioned behind the windscreen, typically in the upper centre area near the rear-view mirror. It captures the road ahead and uses computer vision to detect lane markings, vehicles, and road hazards. The camera feeds data to driver-assistance systems such as lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. It forms the visual foundation of these safety features, allowing the vehicle to monitor road position and surrounding traffic automatically.

    How to tell

Look in the black trim area above the windscreen, centred behind the rear-view mirror — you will see a small triangular lens assembly or dark lens cover. Check your vehicle handbook or ask your dealer's service department to confirm your model has lane-assistance or collision-warning features; vehicles with these systems almost always have a mono camera. Dashboard warning symbols related to lane or collision systems also indicate the presence of this camera.

    Replacement impact

When the windscreen is replaced, the camera bracket and lens assembly must be removed and carefully repositioned on the new glass. The camera may require calibration after fitting to ensure accurate road detection and lane recognition. Calibration needs vary by vehicle — we confirm the exact procedure when we look up your specific vehicle. The job may take longer than a standard windscreen replacement, and workshop facilities may be required if calibration demands a controlled environment.

Clear windscreen glass has no tint; most cars have a slight tint as standard.

    What it means

A clear windscreen contains no added tint layer. Most modern windscreens incorporate a subtle tint (typically blue, green, grey or bronze) as standard to reduce glare, provide UV protection, and improve cabin comfort. A genuinely clear windscreen is the absence of this tint. Clear glass is less common than tinted variants and is sometimes specified for aesthetic or operational reasons, though the tint difference is usually imperceptible to the naked eye.

    How to tell

Lower your side window halfway and hold a white piece of paper behind it. If you see a noticeable colour cast (blue, green, grey or bronze) in the side glass, your windscreen has the same tint. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre to confirm the windscreen specification in your service records.

    Replacement impact

Clear windscreen replacement uses the same installation process as any other windscreen. No special calibration or extended cure time applies. Sourcing is straightforward — clear glass is widely available as an aftermarket replacement. Installation time and drive-away restrictions follow standard windscreen replacement timings. If your vehicle has ADAS features (forward-facing camera or radar), calibration may be required after replacement depending on your specific vehicle; we confirm this when we look up your car details.

About the Volkswagen Crafter

The Volkswagen Crafter is a light commercial vehicle in continuous production since 2006, evolving through multiple generations with steadily advancing windscreen technology.

Earlier models carry straightforward laminated windscreens with green tint and solar-control coating as standard. From the mid-2010s onwards, rain sensors and encapsulated trim became common, simplifying replacement by arriving as a pre-fitted assembly.

Recent variants introduce forward-facing camera systems for driver assistance, requiring static calibration after windscreen replacement. This is completed at a workshop after the glass is fitted, with the fitter using diagnostic equipment to align the camera to manufacturer specification.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

Only if it's equipped with a forward-facing camera system for driver assistance. Older Crafters without cameras don't require calibration — a straightforward replacement is all that's needed. Your quote will confirm whether your variant has a camera.

Technician time typically runs 45–90 minutes depending on whether calibration is required. Non-ADAS Crafters are usually quicker, while camera-equipped variants take longer because static calibration is performed after the glass is set.

Drive-away time is confirmed by the fitter on the day and depends on the adhesive used and ambient conditions.

Encapsulation means the rubber trim is already bonded to the replacement glass at the factory, so it arrives as a ready-to-fit assembly. This simplifies the job because the fitter doesn't need to transfer trim from the old glass — they remove the old windscreen and fit the new one complete with trim in one operation.

Yes, green tint is almost universal across Crafter variants as standard. It's a subtle greenish hue visible when you look at the glass edge-on in daylight; it reduces glare and UV transmission. The replacement will match your original specification.
