Booked and paid online but they didn't know my phone number or have the correct glass.

Booked and paid online. Thursday, the morning of my appointment, I got a text telling me that the technician would ring 30 mins before arrival. At 4.30 he turned up at my door saying that the jobs had been mixed up and that he did not have my phone number. He also did not have the correct glass. He prepped the window and made good with plastic and told me that he would be back Saturday morning. He did phone and finished the job Saturday morning. I do not understand why I booked and paid for the glass I needed, yet the technician didn’t have this or my phone number yet he came to my address unannounced.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Skoda Fabia windscreen replacement

Booking your Fabia windscreen replacement through UK Car Glass is straightforward and takes just minutes.

  1. 1

Use our online widget to answer a short quiz about your model year and features — your exact variant is identified in under 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Complete your booking and checkout in just a couple of minutes.

  3. 3

Our team carries out a parts check to confirm your glass specification matches your vehicle.

  4. 4

A specialist technician in your area is matched to your job and schedules a time that suits you — mobile fitting at your home or a workshop visit if calibration is needed.

  5. 5

On the day, your windscreen is replaced and, if your car has a camera system, static calibration is completed whilst the adhesive cures. You're ready to drive after the fitter confirms the cure time — typically confirmed before they leave.

  6. 6

You're covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and glass quality.

Throughout the process, you're supported by our network of trusted technicians and guided by real Trustpilot reviews from owners just like you.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Fabia?

Most Skoda Fabias can be replaced at your home or workplace via our mobile service. However, if your car is fitted with a front-facing camera system for driver assistance (lane-keeping, adaptive cruise), the static calibration required after replacement must be completed at a workshop in a controlled environment.

When calibration is needed, the entire job — replacement and calibration together — is scheduled at a workshop for one visit. This ensures safety-critical systems are correctly aligned and you don't miss the calibration step. Calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure, so it doesn't add to your drive-away time.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

    1999–2026

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 21 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (95%); model years 1999–2026.

    What it means

  • Rain Sensor5
    2014–2026No calibration after replacement

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 5 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (23%); model years 2014–2026; no calibration after replacement.

    What it means

An optical sensor that detects rainfall and automatically activates your wipers — usually a small dark rectangle mounted on the windscreen.

    On your Skoda Fabia

Found on newer Fabias with convenience packages — if your wipers auto-activate in the rain, your glass carries a rain sensor.

  • Camera4
    2021–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 4 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (18%); model years 2021–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

    What it means

A front-facing camera mounted behind the windscreen, typically used for lane-keeping assist or adaptive cruise control — requires static calibration after replacement.

    On your Skoda Fabia

Present on newer Fabias with ADAS packages — you'll spot small triangular shapes in the black field near the rear-view mirror if fitted. If your car has a camera, your replacement includes a workshop booking for calibration.

  • Clear3
    1999–2020Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 3 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (14%); model years 1999–2020; calibration varies by vehicle.

Clear windscreen glass has no tint; most cars have a slight tint as standard.

    What it means

A clear windscreen contains no added tint layer. Most modern windscreens incorporate a subtle tint (typically blue, green, grey or bronze) as standard to reduce glare, provide UV protection, and improve cabin comfort. A genuinely clear windscreen is the absence of this tint. Clear glass is less common than tinted variants and is sometimes specified for aesthetic or operational reasons, though the tint difference is usually imperceptible to the naked eye.

    How to tell

Lower your side window halfway and hold a white piece of paper behind it. If you see a noticeable colour cast (blue, green, grey or bronze) in the side glass, your windscreen has the same tint. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre to confirm the windscreen specification in your service records.

    Replacement impact

Clear windscreen replacement uses the same installation process as any other windscreen. No special calibration or extended cure time applies. Sourcing is straightforward — clear glass is widely available as an aftermarket replacement. Installation time and drive-away restrictions follow standard windscreen replacement timings. If your vehicle has ADAS features (forward-facing camera or radar), calibration may be required after replacement depending on your specific vehicle; we confirm this when we look up your car details.

  • Grey Sun Strip2
    2000–2013

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 2 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (9%); model years 2000–2013.

A grey-tinted band across the top of your windscreen that reduces glare from sunlight and reflections above.

    What it means

A grey sun strip is a tinted gradient band built into the top edge of the windscreen during manufacture. It sits within the laminated glass layers and gradually fades from opaque grey at the very top to clear further down. The strip is designed to reduce glare and reflections from sunlight, street lights, and oncoming headlights, improving comfort and visibility for the driver without obstructing the view of traffic signals or overhead hazards. Sun strips are a factory-applied feature unique to windscreens—they cannot be added to side or rear glass because those are typically toughened rather than laminated.

    How to tell

Look at the top of your windscreen from inside the vehicle. You will see a grey-tinted band that fades to clear glass. The tint is gradual and integral to the glass itself, not a removable film or coating. Your vehicle's service records or handbook may also list it as a standard feature. If unsure, ask your dealer or service centre whether your specific model includes a sun strip.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with a sun strip, the replacement glass must be sourced in the exact matching variant—including the sun-strip tint and fade profile. Aftermarket and OE glass are both available for most vehicles, but the variant must be correct to match your original. There is no calibration required for the sun strip itself. If your windscreen also carries camera or sensor features, those will be calibrated separately according to your vehicle's needs.

  • Heated Windscreen2
    1999–2026

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 2 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (9%); model years 1999–2026.

Heated windscreens use embedded wires to quickly clear ice and condensation in cold weather.

    What it means

A heated windscreen is integrated with a fine mesh of electrical wires embedded within the glass itself. When activated, these wires generate heat to warm the windscreen surface, helping to rapidly clear frost, ice, and condensation during cold or damp conditions. This feature improves visibility and safety in winter driving and reduces reliance on engine heat and demister air, which can be slower on very cold mornings.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealership service centre — they can confirm whether your model includes this feature. Look for a dashboard symbol (usually a windscreen icon with heat waves) when you activate the function, or check your infotainment settings for a heating or climate option linked to the windscreen. Some vehicles have a dedicated button on the stalk or console.

    Replacement impact

Heated windscreens require replacement glass to be of the correct heated specification — standard unheated glass cannot be fitted. The replacement glass must be sourced to match your vehicle's exact heated-wire configuration. Installation is straightforward, though the technician will confirm the heating element is functioning correctly after fitting. No calibration is required for this feature.

  • Light Sensor2
    2014–2020

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 2 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (9%); model years 2014–2020.

Light sensors automatically turn your headlights on at dusk or in tunnels; the replacement windscreen must include the sensor bracket.

    What it means

A light sensor is a small optical detector mounted on the windscreen or dashboard that monitors ambient light levels. When light drops below a threshold—at dusk or when entering a tunnel—it triggers your headlights to switch on automatically. This removes the need to manually operate the lights and improves safety by ensuring visibility when conditions darken suddenly. The sensor is typically mounted behind the windscreen's top edge or integrated into the interior mirror housing, where it has an unobstructed view of the sky.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or ask your dealer whether your car has automatic headlight control or 'auto lights' as a feature. If equipped, you'll see a symbol on the stalk or dashboard dial marked with a light-bulb icon or 'AUTO' setting. When you select this mode and the ambient light dims, the headlights activate without manual input. Not all cars have this feature; it's typically found on newer or higher-specification models.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen on a vehicle with a light sensor, the replacement glass must include the correct sensor bracket or mounting point to preserve the auto-headlight function. The sensor itself does not require software calibration—it relies on physical positioning behind the windscreen's upper trim or within the mirror assembly. Ensuring the bracket is correctly installed during the fit is essential; if omitted, the auto-light feature will fail and cannot be restored without additional parts and labour.

  • Antenna1
    2010–2013

On the Skoda Fabia: fitted on 1 of the 22 windscreen variants we list (5%); model years 2010–2013.

An aerial laminated into the windscreen or rear window restores radio, DAB or TV reception without a roof-mounted mast.

    What it means

An antenna is a conductive print laminated into the glass during manufacture, typically used for radio, DAB (digital audio broadcasting) or television reception. It replaces the traditional roof-mounted aerial mast found on older vehicles. The antenna is integrated into the glass interlayer and connected to the vehicle's receiver unit via a connector embedded in the glass edge. This design offers a cleaner aesthetic, reduces wind noise, and eliminates the vulnerability of a protruding mast to damage or theft.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's roof — if there is no visible aerial mast, your car likely has a laminated antenna. You can also ask your dealer or service centre whether your windscreen or rear window carries an antenna print. The connector may be visible on the glass edge or inside the door frame trim.

    Replacement impact

When replacing glass with a laminated antenna, the replacement must carry the matching antenna print and connector to restore reception immediately on fitting. Aftermarket or original-equipment glass with the correct antenna specification is essential; a plain replacement will leave you without radio or DAB signal. Our fitters verify the antenna specification during booking and source the correct variant before the appointment.

About the Skoda Fabia

The Skoda Fabia has been in continuous production since 1999, evolving through four generations with significant leaps in glass technology and safety systems.

Earlier models carry straightforward laminated windscreens with minimal tinting, while later Fabias from the 2010s onwards feature green-tinted glass, encapsulated trim, and increasingly sophisticated acoustic interlayers. Many modern variants include solar-control coatings to reduce cabin heat.

From around 2015 onwards, some Fabia models introduced front-facing cameras for driver assistance, which require static calibration after windscreen replacement — a process that runs in parallel with adhesive cure and doesn't extend your drive-away time.
