The Audi R8 has been in continuous production since 2007, evolving through two distinct generations: the first-generation (2007–2015) and the second-generation (2016–2024). Earlier R8s carry laminated windscreens with integrated antennas and rain sensors, whilst the later generation introduced enhanced ADAS integration with camera-dependent systems.
From around 2016 onwards, the second-generation R8 features a front-facing camera mounted behind the windscreen to support Audi pre sense front, active lane assist, and traffic sign recognition. This means windscreen replacement on newer variants requires static camera calibration after fitting — a procedure carried out by the technician as part of the service.
Many R8s across both generations also feature acoustic laminated glass and solar-control coating as part of their premium specification, reducing cabin noise and managing solar heat gain.
