Mercedes GLB rear window price, by year

Price variation on the GLB reflects the presence of privacy tinting on all variants, plus the impact of any ADAS equipment fitted to your specific car. Earlier 2020–2021 models without driver assistance systems tend to be more straightforward fits, while later variants with camera-equipped driver assistance may involve workshop scheduling considerations.

5 stars from start to finish

I received an instant quote from UK Car Glass, £200 cheaper than a competitor for a full windscreen replacement. Booked it, technician arrived when he said he would, communication throughout was outstanding and the work done was top notch. I couldn't fault the service I received, 5 stars.

Booking on line took order and confirmed the window screen replacement for this Tuesday, arranged to travel and take time from work only to get an email today to say can not be done until next week. Terrible service (or lack of service)

Misleading pricing practice

I submitted the details of my vehicle including license plate (from which they can get the VIN) and was given a quote for a replacement windscreen with calibration and home installation. It was a good price compared to competitors and the technician would have been able to repair at home. I accepted the quote and made payment for £889.11, and waited for the confirmation of date and time of installment. 18 hours later I received a call saying that a technician would be able to come out tomorrow to install, however the price quoted was incorrect and in fact it would be £200 more expensive as they got the windscreen part number wrong. Very annoying and potentially misleading pricing practice. I told them to recredit my card and that I would look elsewhere

What to expect during your Mercedes GLB rear window replacement

Booking a rear-window replacement through UK Car Glass is straightforward and starts with a quick online quote.

  1. 1

Complete the online quiz to identify your exact GLB variant — takes about a minute.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote matched to your car's privacy-tinted rear glass specification.

  3. 3

Once booked, our parts team confirms your glass is in stock and matches your factory spec.

  4. 4

You're matched with an approved fitter in your area; they'll contact you to arrange a time.

  5. 5

On the day, the fitter removes the shattered rear glass and installs your replacement — typically 30–60 minutes of their time.

  6. 6

Shard cleanup is part of the job, though small pieces can lodge in hard-to-reach places; a professional valet afterwards ensures a thorough interior clean.

  7. 7

Your replacement comes with a two-year warranty covering workmanship and glass quality.

From quote to fitted, most GLB rear-window jobs complete within a few days.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your GLB?

Most GLB rear-window replacements can be fitted at your home or workplace by mobile appointment. However, if your car is equipped with the Driver Assistance Package (2022+), the fitter may recommend a workshop visit to ensure parking stability and safe access around the vehicle during the fit. This is a scheduling choice, not a technical requirement, and will be discussed when you book.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Antenna1
    2020–2026

An aerial laminated into the windscreen or rear window restores radio, DAB or TV reception without a roof-mounted mast.

    What it means

An antenna is a conductive print laminated into the glass during manufacture, typically used for radio, DAB (digital audio broadcasting) or television reception. It replaces the traditional roof-mounted aerial mast found on older vehicles. The antenna is integrated into the glass interlayer and connected to the vehicle's receiver unit via a connector embedded in the glass edge. This design offers a cleaner aesthetic, reduces wind noise, and eliminates the vulnerability of a protruding mast to damage or theft.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's roof — if there is no visible aerial mast, your car likely has a laminated antenna. You can also ask your dealer or service centre whether your windscreen or rear window carries an antenna print. The connector may be visible on the glass edge or inside the door frame trim.

    Replacement impact

When replacing glass with a laminated antenna, the replacement must carry the matching antenna print and connector to restore reception immediately on fitting. Aftermarket or original-equipment glass with the correct antenna specification is essential; a plain replacement will leave you without radio or DAB signal. Our fitters verify the antenna specification during booking and source the correct variant before the appointment.

  • Grey Privacy1
    2020–2026

Dark grey tint on rear windows provides privacy and reduces interior heat and glare.

    What it means

Dark grey tint, formally known as privacy glass, is a factory-applied tint created through a deep-dipping process during glass manufacture. The pigment is infused into the inner surface of the glass, darkening the rear windows (and sometimes rear doors) significantly more than the front. This reduces heat transmission, minimises glare, and obscures the interior from outside view. It's standard on the rear half of many modern vehicles.

    How to tell

Compare the rear side windows and rear window (backlight) to the front side windows — the rear glass will be noticeably darker. Check your vehicle documents or ask your dealership service centre if you're unsure whether your car left the factory with privacy glass.

    Replacement impact

Dark grey tinted glass must be sourced from the Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) or dealership to ensure colour and transmission match your vehicle's existing rear glass. The tint is integral to the glass itself, not a surface coating, so aftermarket non-tinted glass will look visibly mismatched. Replacement does not require any calibration and follows standard bonded-glass cure times for rear windows.

  • Heated Rear Windscreen1
    2020–2026

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

About the Mercedes GLB

The Mercedes-Benz GLB is a compact SUV launched in 2020, built on the MFA2 platform shared with the A-Class and GLA. It's offered across multiple trim levels with consistent rear-window specifications throughout its production run.

The rear window on all GLB variants features privacy tinting — darker than the windscreen — to match the model's modern aesthetic and interior privacy. This tinted rear glass is factory-fitted as standard and is reflected in your replacement quote.

From 2022 onwards, many GLB models began arriving with the Driver Assistance Package, which includes front-mounted cameras for lane-keeping and collision warning. While these cameras sit behind the windscreen, not the rear window, they may influence workshop vs mobile fitting choices on your booking.
