The Mercedes GL-Class ran from 2005 to 2013 as a full-size luxury SUV, spanning two main generations. Early models (2005–2009) carried straightforward toughened rear glass with essential heating elements, whilst later variants introduced integrated antenna technology and, on some trims, privacy tinting for enhanced cabin security.
From around 2009 onwards, GPS antenna integration and anti-theft alarm wiring became available on certain specifications, reflecting Mercedes' push towards connected in-vehicle systems. Most GL-Class rear windows are toughened glass — a tougher, quicker-breaking compound than laminated — because the rear doesn't bear the same structural load as the windscreen.
