What to expect during your Mercedes B Class rear window replacement

Booking your rear window replacement is straightforward — quote, match, and fit.

  1. 1

Answer a quick quiz about your B-Class variant (year, trim, features) to receive an instant quote.

  2. 2

Choose a fitting time that suits you — mobile at your address or at a local workshop.

  3. 3

Our parts team confirms the exact rear window type needed, including any integrated antennas or brake-light circuits.

  4. 4

Your matched fitter arrives and removes the shattered glass, clearing accessible shards from the interior.

  5. 5

The new window is bonded in place using premium adhesive; your fitter will confirm the minimum drive-away time before leaving.

  6. 6

After fitting, we recommend a professional interior valet to ensure any small shards lodged in hard-to-reach places are professionally cleaned out.

  7. 7

Your replacement is covered by a two-year warranty against workmanship and glass defects.

Book online in under two minutes, or call for a bespoke quote if your variant is not in the widget.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your B Class?

Most B-Class rear-window replacements can be completed mobile at your address — the fitter arrives, removes the shattered glass, and bonds the new rear window in place.

A workshop visit is rarely necessary unless you prefer a controlled environment, or if a pothole or impact has caused damage to the surrounding frame area that needs inspection. The choice is yours at booking.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Heated Rear Windscreen3
    2005–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on every one of the 3 rear window variants we list; model years 2005–2026.

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

  • Antenna2
    2011–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 2 of the 3 rear window variants we list (67%); model years 2011–2026.

    What it means

An aerial laminated into the rear glass for radio or DAB reception; the replacement carries the same antenna print and connector.

    On your Mercedes B Class

Confirmed during your quote — our parts check identifies whether your variant includes an integrated antenna.

  • Grey Privacy2
    2011–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 2 of the 3 rear window variants we list (67%); model years 2011–2026.

Dark grey tint on rear windows provides privacy and reduces interior heat and glare.

    What it means

Dark grey tint, formally known as privacy glass, is a factory-applied tint created through a deep-dipping process during glass manufacture. The pigment is infused into the inner surface of the glass, darkening the rear windows (and sometimes rear doors) significantly more than the front. This reduces heat transmission, minimises glare, and obscures the interior from outside view. It's standard on the rear half of many modern vehicles.

    How to tell

Compare the rear side windows and rear window (backlight) to the front side windows — the rear glass will be noticeably darker. Check your vehicle documents or ask your dealership service centre if you're unsure whether your car left the factory with privacy glass.

    Replacement impact

Dark grey tinted glass must be sourced from the Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) or dealership to ensure colour and transmission match your vehicle's existing rear glass. The tint is integral to the glass itself, not a surface coating, so aftermarket non-tinted glass will look visibly mismatched. Replacement does not require any calibration and follows standard bonded-glass cure times for rear windows.

  • TV Antenna2
    2011–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 2 of the 3 rear window variants we list (67%); model years 2011–2026.

    What it means

A TV-reception aerial integrated into the rear glass, typically found on variants with rear-seat entertainment systems.

    On your Mercedes B Class

Confirmed in your variant details — usually fitted to higher-specification trim levels with multimedia systems.

  • Brake Light1
    2019–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 rear window variants we list (33%); model years 2019–2026.

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass itself, requiring a matching replacement to reconnect the original lighting circuit.

    What it means

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass is a lighting element built directly into the glass panel during manufacturing. Rather than using a separate lamp cluster mounted to the vehicle body, the light circuit is routed through conductive elements — typically a silkscreen pattern, wire network, or bracket assembly — embedded in or bonded to the glass itself. When you brake, this integrated light illuminates to warn following traffic. It combines functionality with design integration, reducing the number of separate components on the rear of the vehicle.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's rear window for a visible pattern of fine lines or wires running across the glass, usually near the top edge or spanning the upper portion. Look at your vehicle's manual or contact your dealer's service centre — they can confirm whether your rear window carries an integrated brake light. If you see a separate brake-light cluster mounted to the bodywork instead, your vehicle does not have this feature.

    Replacement impact

The replacement rear window must carry the identical integrated brake-light pattern so the original lighting circuit reconnects without modification. The conductive elements — whether silkscreen, wiring, or bracket fittings — must align precisely with the vehicle's electrical connections. Using a standard rear window without this pattern would disable the brake light. We source the correct OE-specification glass to ensure a seamless fit and restore full functionality.

  • Green1
    2005–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 rear window variants we list (33%); model years 2005–2026.

    What it means

A subtle green tint to the glass, standard on many modern Mercedes vehicles for heat and UV control.

    On your Mercedes B Class

Often difficult to spot visually; confirmed by our parts check during the quote.

  • Solar Control1
    2005–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 rear window variants we list (33%); model years 2005–2026.

    What it means

Specialist coating that absorbs the sun's infrared rays, helping keep the interior cooler on hot days.

    On your Mercedes B Class

Typically fitted to higher trim levels or comfort packages; confirmed during your variant quote.

  • Vehicle Emergency Messaging1
    2019–2026

On the Mercedes B Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 rear window variants we list (33%); model years 2019–2026.

Emergency messaging systems alert the emergency services immediately after a serious crash, reducing response time.

    What it means

An emergency messaging system (sometimes called a 'Mayday' system) is an in-vehicle safety feature that automatically detects a serious collision and transmits emergency location data to the relevant emergency services. When a major impact is detected, the system sends the vehicle's precise GPS coordinates and other crash details to emergency responders, reducing the critical time between the accident and the arrival of medical assistance. This technology is designed to save lives by ensuring rapid response, particularly in situations where the occupants may be unconscious or unable to make a call themselves.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's user manual or infotainment system for emergency call or 'eCall' settings. Many vehicles display an emergency services icon in the dashboard menu or settings. You can also ask your dealership or service centre directly whether your model includes this feature — they'll confirm it's present and explain how to register or activate it if needed.

    Replacement impact

Emergency messaging systems typically involve a control module or sensors in the vehicle structure, but do not require calibration or special handling during windscreen replacement. The system remains fully functional after glass replacement. No cure-time implications or OE-only glass sourcing is triggered by this feature. Standard replacement procedures apply.

About the Mercedes B Class

The Mercedes B-Class has been in continuous production since 2005, evolving through multiple generations as a compact multi-purpose vehicle. Each generation has introduced refinements to rear window design, with some variants equipped with integrated antennas, privacy tinting, and brake-light elements.

From the mid-2010s onwards, some B-Class models gained advanced driver assistance systems, though rear-window ADAS calibration is less common on this platform than on larger Mercedes saloons. Rear windows on B-Class variants are typically toughened glass — shattered rear windows create scattered shards that require thorough cleanup after fitting.
