The BMW 3 Series has been in continuous production since 1991, spanning multiple generations from the E30 through to today's G-series models. Rear windows on the 3 Series typically feature toughened glass with integrated FM antenna elements — a key characteristic across most variants that must be matched on replacement to preserve radio reception.
From the mid-2010s onwards, many 3 Series models gained front-facing camera systems as part of BMW's Driving Assistant packages. Whilst these cameras mount to the windscreen (not the rear window), any windscreen replacement on a camera-equipped 3 Series requires recalibration of the lane departure and adaptive cruise systems after fitting.
Rear-window replacement is typically a faster job than windscreen work and doesn't involve calibration, though shard cleanup from the shattered glass is a significant part of the task — we always recommend a professional interior valet afterwards for thorough detailing.
