BMW 3 Series rear window price, by year

Pricing varies with generation and optional equipment. Earlier 3 Series models without advanced ADAS systems are generally more straightforward and cost-effective. Newer variants with integrated antennas or specialised tints may carry different pricing depending on parts availability and the complexity of feature matching.

Rear-window jobs are typically more affordable than windscreen replacements because they don't require the static calibration procedures that camera-equipped windscreens need.

Go DIRECT and get it alot cheaper

this is a middle man organisation. the first quote i got was for over £500, the second quote £377. when the local chap arrived, i realised i'd been duped. and could have paid only £200 for the same job. UK Car Glass pay for advertising, so they come up top of the search, but if you are more discerning and have a little patience, you'll find a local tradesman who will do the job DIRECT. maybe then you save some money, and give him a tip and cut out the middle men. I think UK car glass are based in South Africa and are raking it in for being middle men. not cool

What to expect during your BMW 3 Series rear window replacement

Booking your BMW 3 Series rear-window replacement through UK Car Glass is straightforward.

  1. 1

Answer a quick online quiz about your 3 Series (year, trim, features) — takes under 60 seconds and identifies your exact glass variant.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote and proceed to checkout in under two minutes.

  3. 3

You're matched with an approved local fitter who sources the correct replacement glass and confirms the fitting appointment.

  4. 4

On the day, your fitter removes the shattered glass and installs the new rear window — typically 30–60 minutes depending on your vehicle.

  5. 5

Your fitter will clear accessible glass shards during the job; we recommend a professional valet afterwards to reach any fragments lodged in seats or trim.

  6. 6

You receive a two-year warranty covering workmanship and glass quality, with any claims handled directly by UKCG.

From quote to fitting, the whole process is designed to be as seamless as possible.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your 3 Series?

Rear-window replacement on the 3 Series is typically carried out at your home or workplace — mobile fitting is the standard option. Your fitter arrives with everything needed to remove the shattered glass, clear accessible shards, and fit the new rear window in around 30–60 minutes.

Because rear windows don't involve ADAS calibration (unlike windscreen jobs), there's no requirement for a workshop visit on safety grounds. However, if you prefer a workshop environment or your location is difficult to access, your fitter can arrange a workshop slot.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

What features does your 3 Series have?

Tap a feature to see what it is, how to spot it on your car, and how it affects glass replacement. We confirm the exact match for your vehicle when you book.

  • Heated Rear Windscreen13
    1989–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 13 of the 15 rear window variants we list (87%); model years 1989–2026.

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

  • Antenna11
    1994–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 11 of the 15 rear window variants we list (73%); model years 1994–2026.

    What it means

An FM radio antenna laminated into the rear window glass; replacement glass must carry the matching antenna print so your radio reception is restored.

    On your BMW 3 Series

Confirmed during the quote process — most 3 Series variants from the 1990s onwards feature integrated antennas in the rear window.

  • Green10
    1989–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 10 of the 15 rear window variants we list (67%); model years 1989–2026.

    What it means

A subtle green tint in the glass, common across many BMW models and standard on most 3 Series — almost invisible when you look at it directly.

    On your BMW 3 Series

This tint is typically standard across most production years; our parts check team confirms it matches your original when you book.

  • Brake Light8
    1994–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 8 of the 15 rear window variants we list (53%); model years 1994–2026.

    What it means

A high-level brake light integrated into the rear window — the replacement glass must carry the same silkscreen pattern and fittings so the brake circuit reconnects properly.

    On your BMW 3 Series

Found on certain 3 Series generations and trim levels; our quote process identifies whether your variant has this feature.

  • Solar Control5
    2001–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 5 of the 15 rear window variants we list (33%); model years 2001–2026.

    What it means

A special coating that absorbs the Sun's infrared rays, reducing heat build-up inside the vehicle — optional on higher trims and later variants.

    On your BMW 3 Series

Usually found on premium or higher-specification trim levels; our quote system identifies whether your 3 Series variant has this upgrade.

  • TV Antenna4
    1998–2012

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 4 of the 15 rear window variants we list (27%); model years 1998–2012.

    What it means

A dedicated TV-reception aerial laminated into the rear window for models with rear-seat entertainment — the replacement must carry the matching antenna print.

    On your BMW 3 Series

Only on 3 Series models equipped with factory TV or premium entertainment packages; confirmed during the variant check.

  • Dark Green2
    2005–2012

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 2 of the 15 rear window variants we list (13%); model years 2005–2012.

Dark green tinted rear and side glass that's noticeably darker than the front windscreen but still see-through in daylight.

    What it means

Dark green tint is a factory-applied colour to the rear window and side windows on some vehicles. It serves both aesthetic and functional purposes: it reduces glare and heat from sunlight, provides a degree of privacy without completely obscuring the interior, and contributes to the vehicle's overall design. Unlike privacy glass (which is much darker and difficult to see through from outside), dark green tint maintains reasonable transparency while still offering a tinted appearance.

    How to tell

Look at your rear window and rear side windows in daylight. If they appear noticeably darker and greenish in tone compared to your front windscreen, you have dark green tint. The tint will be clearly visible when you look at the vehicle from outside, but you'll still be able to see through to the interior in normal daylight. Check your vehicle documentation or ask your dealership if you're uncertain.

    Replacement impact

Replacement glass must match the original dark green tint specification to maintain the vehicle's appearance and light-control properties. We source OEM or OE-equivalent tinted glass to the correct colour specification. Tinted glass is available from stock for most common vehicles, though lead times may occasionally be slightly longer than untinted variants. Installation and cure procedures are identical to standard glass; tint does not affect fitting time or drive-away windows.

  • Grey Privacy2
    2006–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 2 of the 15 rear window variants we list (13%); model years 2006–2026.

Dark grey tint on rear windows provides privacy and reduces interior heat and glare.

    What it means

Dark grey tint, formally known as privacy glass, is a factory-applied tint created through a deep-dipping process during glass manufacture. The pigment is infused into the inner surface of the glass, darkening the rear windows (and sometimes rear doors) significantly more than the front. This reduces heat transmission, minimises glare, and obscures the interior from outside view. It's standard on the rear half of many modern vehicles.

    How to tell

Compare the rear side windows and rear window (backlight) to the front side windows — the rear glass will be noticeably darker. Check your vehicle documents or ask your dealership service centre if you're unsure whether your car left the factory with privacy glass.

    Replacement impact

Dark grey tinted glass must be sourced from the Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) or dealership to ensure colour and transmission match your vehicle's existing rear glass. The tint is integral to the glass itself, not a surface coating, so aftermarket non-tinted glass will look visibly mismatched. Replacement does not require any calibration and follows standard bonded-glass cure times for rear windows.

  • Open2
    2005–2026

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 2 of the 15 rear window variants we list (13%); model years 2005–2026.

An opening pane with hinged hardware, typically on rear quarters or van sides.

    What it means

An opening glass pane is a hinged or pivoting section of bodyglass designed to swing or tilt outward for ventilation or access. Commonly found on rear quarters of estates or vans, and on van side panels. Unlike fixed side windows or windscreens, opening panes are part of the vehicle's passive ventilation system and allow airflow without opening a door or window. The hinge and frame hardware are integral to the feature's function.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's side and rear quarter panels for hinged glass sections that swing outward. Ask your dealer or service centre whether your model includes rear quarter vents or van-side opening panels. Your handbook will list ventilation features. Opening panes are visually distinct from sliding or rolling windows — they pivot on visible hinges rather than moving vertically or horizontally.

    Replacement impact

UKCG handles opening-pane replacement on a bespoke basis — please contact us for a quote rather than using the automated quote tool. Replacement includes the glass pane and matching hinge hardware where supplied. Fitting time is typically brief as there is no adhesive cure or calibration required. The pane is held in place by mechanical hinges and seals, so you can use the vehicle immediately after fitting.

  • GPS1
    2001–2005

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 1 of the 15 rear window variants we list (7%); model years 2001–2005.

GPS antenna built into the windscreen connects your sat-nav to satellite signals for reliable navigation.

    What it means

A GPS antenna is laminated into the windscreen glass during manufacture, providing a direct aerial connection for your vehicle's satellite-navigation system. This integrated design offers better signal reception than external antennas and a cleaner aesthetic. The antenna print and electrical connector are engineered into the glass itself, allowing the navigation receiver to lock onto GPS satellites without interference from the vehicle's metal body or other components.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or ask your dealership service centre whether your windscreen carries an integrated GPS antenna. You won't see obvious external aerials or connectors on the glass itself — the antenna is laminated internally. If your sat-nav works reliably without a visible roof-mounted antenna, it's likely GPS-equipped.

    Replacement impact

Replacement windscreens with GPS antennas must be sourced as OEM (original-equipment) glass to preserve navigation functionality. The antenna print pattern and electrical connector are specific to your vehicle's sat-nav system. Aftermarket glass without the antenna print will not support GPS reception. We confirm OEM availability when you book; lead times may be slightly longer than standard glass.

  • Green Privacy1
    2000–2005

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 1 of the 15 rear window variants we list (7%); model years 2000–2005.

Dark green tint on rear and side windows is a factory colour choice, not a safety or performance feature.

    What it means

Dark green is a factory tint applied to the glass during manufacture. It's purely aesthetic — a colour variant chosen by the vehicle designer to complement the body paint and interior trim. Unlike some tints that reduce solar heat or glare, dark green is decorative. Most vehicles have standard or light green glass; dark green is less common and typically found on specific trim levels or model years.

    How to tell

Look at your rear and side windows from outside the car in daylight. If they appear noticeably darker or more saturated green than the front windscreen, you likely have dark green glass. You can also check your vehicle's specification sheet from the dealer or original documentation — tint colour is sometimes listed under 'glass' or 'exterior finishes'. If uncertain, ask your local dealership service centre.

    Replacement impact

Dark green replacement glass must match the original tint colour exactly — a standard or light green windscreen will look visibly mismatched against dark green rear windows. Sourcing the correct variant can take slightly longer than standard glass, as it's less common. No calibration is involved with tinted glass itself. Fitting and cure time are unaffected.

  • Mobile Telephone1
    2001–2005

On the BMW 3 Series: fitted on 1 of the 15 rear window variants we list (7%); model years 2001–2005.

Built-in telephone aerial in the rear window for older luxury vehicles with handset systems.

    What it means

A mobile telephone system fitted to certain older luxury vehicles consists of an aerial and connector circuit printed or bonded into the rear window glass, paired with a handset mounted inside the cabin (typically between the front seats). The aerial enables radio transmission and reception for the in-car telephone. When the rear window is replaced, the new glass must carry an identical aerial print so the handset's electrical connector mates correctly and the system functions.

    How to tell

Check whether your vehicle has a handset unit mounted between the front seats or on the centre console. If present, your rear window will have a fine printed pattern or metallic trace visible on the glass itself (usually near the top edge). Ask your dealer or service centre to confirm whether your model is fitted with a factory mobile telephone system; they can verify this from the vehicle specification.

    Replacement impact

The replacement rear window must be an exact OE match with the identical aerial circuit printed into the glass. Aftermarket glass typically does not carry this feature. You will need to source the glass from the vehicle manufacturer or a specialist supplier holding OE stock. Fitting is standard; the handset reconnects once the glass is installed. Cure time applies as with any bonded rear window.

About the BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series has been in continuous production since 1991, spanning multiple generations from the E30 through to today's G-series models. Rear windows on the 3 Series typically feature toughened glass with integrated FM antenna elements — a key characteristic across most variants that must be matched on replacement to preserve radio reception.

From the mid-2010s onwards, many 3 Series models gained front-facing camera systems as part of BMW's Driving Assistant packages. Whilst these cameras mount to the windscreen (not the rear window), any windscreen replacement on a camera-equipped 3 Series requires recalibration of the lane departure and adaptive cruise systems after fitting.

Rear-window replacement is typically a faster job than windscreen work and doesn't involve calibration, though shard cleanup from the shattered glass is a significant part of the task — we always recommend a professional interior valet afterwards for thorough detailing.
