Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your 500X?

Most 500X windscreen replacements can be fitted at your home or workplace via a mobile technician. However, models from 2020 onwards with the Co-Driver camera system require calibration after the glass is fitted.

When calibration is needed, the full job (replacement plus calibration) is scheduled at a workshop so the camera can be properly aligned using specialist equipment. UKCG doesn't split jobs across locations — this keeps your safety-critical calibration in one place with proper accountability.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Green7
    2015–2024

On the FIAT 500X: fitted on every one of the 7 windscreen variants we list; model years 2015–2024.

    What it means

A subtle green tint in the glass, hard to spot, is factory standard on nearly all modern windscreens for UV protection.

    On your FIAT 500X

Present on all 500X variants — look carefully at the edge of the glass or the top corner to notice it.

  • Vin Notch7
    2015–2024

On the FIAT 500X: fitted on every one of the 7 windscreen variants we list; model years 2015–2024.

    What it means

A small box printed at the bottom of the windscreen displaying your vehicle's chassis number — aids identification and is factory standard.

    On your FIAT 500X

  • Acoustic (Noise reduction)6
    2015–2024

On the FIAT 500X: fitted on 6 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (86%); model years 2015–2024.

    What it means

A laminated interlayer in the glass dampens road and wind noise, creating a quieter cabin — often branded as 'SoundScreen' or marked with an ear symbol.

    On your FIAT 500X

Standard on most 500X trims from the mid-2010s onwards; look for 'Acoustic' or 'SoundScreen' marking in a corner of the glass.

  • Solar Control5
    2015–2024

On the FIAT 500X: fitted on 5 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (71%); model years 2015–2024.

Solar control glass absorbs infrared rays to reduce heat and improve cabin comfort.

    What it means

Solar control is a coating applied to the windscreen that absorbs the sun's infrared radiation rather than allowing it to pass through into the cabin. This reduces solar heat gain, helping to keep the interior cooler and more comfortable, particularly in warm weather or direct sunlight. The coating is transparent to visible light, so it doesn't darken the windscreen or affect visibility. It's a passive thermal management feature that works continuously whenever the sun is shining on the glass.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's specification sheet or contact your dealership service centre to confirm whether solar control glass is fitted. Some manufacturers list it as 'solar control windscreen', 'heat-reflective glass', or 'thermal management glass'. It's a factory-fitted feature and won't be visibly obvious from outside the car — the coating is integral to the glass itself.

    Replacement impact

Solar control glass is a factory-fitted specification. When replacing the windscreen, a solar control variant must be sourced to match the original. This is a standard glass type with no special fitting implications or calibration requirements. Cure and drive-away times follow normal windscreen bonding procedures. Confirm with your fitter that the replacement glass includes solar control to maintain the original thermal performance.

About the FIAT 500X

The Fiat 500X has been in continuous production since 2015, evolving steadily through the generation with regular updates to its glass and driver-assistance features.

Earlier models carry laminated windscreens with encapsulation, whilst later variants from around 2019–2020 onwards began introducing Co-Driver ADAS systems with forward-facing cameras and rain-sensing wipers, along with acoustic noise-reduction glass on most trim levels.

From 2020 onwards, camera-equipped 500X models require windscreen calibration after replacement — a dynamic procedure performed after the glass is set and the vehicle is ready to drive.
