BMW X1 windscreen price, by year

Price variation across X1 variants reflects generation differences and ADAS uptake. Earlier models without cameras carry lower calibration complexity, while camera-equipped variants from the mid-2010s onwards require specialist static and dynamic recalibration after fitting.

Acoustic and solar-control glass options on higher trims also influence cost, as do encapsulated variants which require different installation handling.

Uk Glass better than our insurers preferred supplier.

Our insurer wanted us to use their preferred supplier, but they could not fix our windscreen for over 2 weeks. UK Glass could do it within 4 days. Their communication with us was first rate and the job was done as arranged by some excellent fitters. The price was competitive too. was excellent

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your BMW X1 windscreen replacement

Booking your X1 windscreen replacement through UK Car Glass involves a guided quote, parts verification, and technician matching — here's what happens next.

  1. 1

Complete a quick online quote using our widget — answer a few questions about your X1's model year and features. Takes around 60 seconds.

  2. 2

We check our parts database to confirm the exact windscreen variant (tint, sensors, camera bracket, acoustic option) matches your vehicle.

  3. 3

You're matched with an approved fitter in your area — mobile replacement at your address is the standard, or workshop if you prefer.

  4. 4

On fitting day, the technician removes the damaged windscreen, prepares the frame, and installs your replacement glass. For ADAS-equipped X1s, static camera calibration is completed at the same location.

  5. 5

If dynamic calibration is required, the technician will conduct a test drive at set speeds to recalibrate the lane-departure system — this runs in parallel with adhesive cure.

  6. 6

Your fitter confirms the drive-away time before leaving. Two-year warranty covers workmanship and glass quality.

Book now and arrange your replacement within days — most customers complete the whole process from quote to fitted glass in under a week.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your X1?

Most X1 windscreen replacements can be carried out as mobile fittings at your address. However, if your X1 is equipped with a front-facing camera (Driving Assistant package), static camera calibration is required after the glass is fitted — this often needs to be done in a controlled workshop environment with target boards.

Following the no-split rule, the entire job (replacement plus calibration) is scheduled at a workshop to ensure the safety-critical recalibration is completed properly. Dynamic calibration (a test drive at set speeds) may also be required — your technician will confirm the complete procedure before the booking is finalised.

  • Light Sensor4
    2015–2022

On the BMW X1: fitted on 4 of the 10 windscreen variants we list (40%); model years 2015–2022.

Light sensors automatically turn your headlights on at dusk or in tunnels; the replacement windscreen must include the sensor bracket.

    What it means

A light sensor is a small optical detector mounted on the windscreen or dashboard that monitors ambient light levels. When light drops below a threshold—at dusk or when entering a tunnel—it triggers your headlights to switch on automatically. This removes the need to manually operate the lights and improves safety by ensuring visibility when conditions darken suddenly. The sensor is typically mounted behind the windscreen's top edge or integrated into the interior mirror housing, where it has an unobstructed view of the sky.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or ask your dealer whether your car has automatic headlight control or 'auto lights' as a feature. If equipped, you'll see a symbol on the stalk or dashboard dial marked with a light-bulb icon or 'AUTO' setting. When you select this mode and the ambient light dims, the headlights activate without manual input. Not all cars have this feature; it's typically found on newer or higher-specification models.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen on a vehicle with a light sensor, the replacement glass must include the correct sensor bracket or mounting point to preserve the auto-headlight function. The sensor itself does not require software calibration—it relies on physical positioning behind the windscreen's upper trim or within the mirror assembly. Ensuring the bracket is correctly installed during the fit is essential; if omitted, the auto-light feature will fail and cannot be restored without additional parts and labour.

  • HUD - Head Up Display3
    2015–2026No calibration after replacement

On the BMW X1: fitted on 3 of the 10 windscreen variants we list (30%); model years 2015–2026; no calibration after replacement.

A Head-Up Display projects your speed, navigation cues and key alerts onto the windscreen so you can read them without looking down.

    What it means

A Head-Up Display (HUD) projects driving information — speed, navigation cues, ADAS alerts — onto the windscreen in your line of sight, so you can read it without taking your eyes off the road. The projector is mounted in the dashboard and shines the image upwards onto a special HUD-compatible windscreen that uses a wedge-shaped laminate to prevent a ghost image. Common on premium and sports models, increasingly standard on mid-range cars from the 2020s onwards.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's specification sheet or handbook under 'display features' or 'HUD'. Look for a small projector unit mounted on the dashboard, typically below the steering wheel or in the instrument cluster area. When you start the vehicle, a bright image should appear on the lower windscreen area. Your dealer's service centre can confirm whether your specific model and trim level includes a HUD.

    Replacement impact

Your replacement windscreen needs to be HUD-compatible — built with the correct wedge laminate so the projected image stays sharp and double-free. Once the HUD-compatible glass is fitted, the projector itself typically doesn't need recalibration: image position is user-adjustable via your dashboard controls. We confirm your vehicle uses the HUD-compatible windscreen variant when ordering, so the replacement matches the original.

  • Bracket For Safety Features2
    2016–2022Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW X1: fitted on 2 of the 10 windscreen variants we list (20%); model years 2016–2022; calibration varies by vehicle.

The moulded trim that surrounds your camera and sensor cluster at the top of the windscreen, typically transferred or supplied with replacement glass.

    What it means

A bracket for safety features is the moulded plastic or composite shroud that sits at the top of the windscreen, framing and protecting the camera and sensor cluster mounted behind the rear-view mirror. This trim cover houses forward-facing driver-assistance cameras and sensors — equipment that monitors the road ahead for lane-keeping, collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and similar safety functions. The bracket itself is part of the vehicle's structural frame, but the trim cover you see is what protects and aesthetically integrates the technology into the windscreen area.

    How to tell

Look at the top centre of your windscreen, just above or around the rear-view mirror. If you see a dark moulded shroud or trim panel — often rectangular or tapered — with a visible lens or sensor window, your vehicle has a bracket for safety features. Your service history or handbook will list any ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technologies fitted. Ask your dealer or service centre if your vehicle has forward-facing cameras or sensors; if it does, you have a bracket for safety features.

    Replacement impact

On windscreen replacement, the trim cover is typically transferred from your old glass to the new one, or supplied pre-integrated with the replacement depending on the variant. This means minimal disruption to your safety system during the swap. However, if the bracket requires recalibration after glass replacement — which depends on your specific vehicle and camera type — the job may require static calibration (using a target board) or dynamic calibration (a road drive). We confirm the exact calibration procedure when we look up your vehicle.

    • 2Dynamic

We confirm the exact procedure for your specific vehicle when you book.

  • Dynamic Camera Calibration Process2
    2016–2022Calibration varies by vehicle

On the BMW X1: fitted on 2 of the 10 windscreen variants we list (20%); model years 2016–2022; calibration varies by vehicle.

Dynamic calibration uses road driving to recalibrate your camera after windscreen replacement.

    What it means

Dynamic camera calibration is a procedure in which a technician drives the vehicle on marked roads at set speeds after the windscreen has been fitted and the adhesive has cured. During this drive, the forward-facing camera relearns its reference points — lane markings, road signs, road edges and surrounding traffic patterns — so it can resume accurate operation of camera-dependent safety and driver-assistance systems. This recalibration is necessary because any windscreen replacement, even with precision fitting, can introduce small shifts in the camera's optical alignment relative to the road.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealer to confirm whether your car has a forward-facing camera system. If it does, ask the dealer whether your specific model requires dynamic (road-drive) or static (target-board) calibration after windscreen replacement. You can also ask your fitter — they will establish this when they look up your vehicle's specification.

    Replacement impact

After your windscreen is fitted and the bonding has cured, a technician will drive the vehicle on marked roads at controlled speeds to allow the camera to relearn its environment. This extends the overall job duration beyond the glass-fitting time alone. Depending on your vehicle, calibration may be performed during the same visit or scheduled separately. We confirm the exact procedure and location (mobile or workshop) when we look up your specific vehicle.

  • Grey Sun Strip2
    2010–2016

On the BMW X1: fitted on 2 of the 10 windscreen variants we list (20%); model years 2010–2016.

A grey-tinted band across the top of your windscreen that reduces glare from sunlight and reflections above.

    What it means

A grey sun strip is a tinted gradient band built into the top edge of the windscreen during manufacture. It sits within the laminated glass layers and gradually fades from opaque grey at the very top to clear further down. The strip is designed to reduce glare and reflections from sunlight, street lights, and oncoming headlights, improving comfort and visibility for the driver without obstructing the view of traffic signals or overhead hazards. Sun strips are a factory-applied feature unique to windscreens—they cannot be added to side or rear glass because those are typically toughened rather than laminated.

    How to tell

Look at the top of your windscreen from inside the vehicle. You will see a grey-tinted band that fades to clear glass. The tint is gradual and integral to the glass itself, not a removable film or coating. Your vehicle's service records or handbook may also list it as a standard feature. If unsure, ask your dealer or service centre whether your specific model includes a sun strip.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with a sun strip, the replacement glass must be sourced in the exact matching variant—including the sun-strip tint and fade profile. Aftermarket and OE glass are both available for most vehicles, but the variant must be correct to match your original. There is no calibration required for the sun strip itself. If your windscreen also carries camera or sensor features, those will be calibrated separately according to your vehicle's needs.

About the BMW X1

The BMW X1 has been in continuous production since 2009, spanning three generations (F48, G05, and later). Early models carry straightforward laminated windscreens with rain sensors, while mid-generation variants introduced acoustic interlayers for noise reduction and solar-control glass on higher-spec trims.

From around 2015 onwards, ADAS systems brought front-facing cameras integrated into the windscreen bracket as part of BMW's Driving Assistant packages. Any X1 equipped with a camera requires recalibration after windscreen replacement — both static and dynamic procedures are used depending on the specific system variant.

Encapsulated trim (pre-bonded rubber gasket) is fitted to many modern variants, meaning the replacement glass arrives with its seal already attached, simplifying the fit.

Some BMW X1 windscreens carry a camera that may need recalibrating after fitting. Read about ADAS calibration.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

If your X1 is equipped with BMW's Driving Assistant package (lane departure warning with a front-facing camera), yes — recalibration is required after replacement. Static calibration is completed on the day at a workshop, and dynamic calibration (a test drive at marked speeds) typically follows.

Earlier X1s without a camera don't require this. Our quote confirms whether your variant needs it.

Mobile fitting at your address is standard and available for most X1 replacements. However, camera-equipped variants (with Driving Assistant) require workshop calibration, so the entire job is scheduled there — we don't split the replacement and calibration across two locations.

Calibration needs specialist equipment and a controlled environment, so this keeps the job together and ensures the safety-critical recalibration is completed on the day.

Technician time typically ranges from 45–90 minutes for the replacement itself, depending on your X1's variant and whether camera calibration is involved. For ADAS-equipped models, static calibration is completed after the glass is set, extending the fitter's time on the job.

Drive-away time is confirmed by your technician before they leave — calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure, so it doesn't extend the time before you can drive away.

Yes — your replacement matches your original factory specification exactly. This includes tint colour, rain sensor integration, acoustic or solar-control coatings, camera bracket position, and any other features your X1 left the factory with.

Our parts check team verifies the exact variant before fitting, so you get the right glass for your model.
