Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

More professional than autoglass

Polite, prompt and efficient. Contacted Uk Car Glass and autoglass for quotes, autoglass were suppose to call with in a window and they didn’t, by the time they contacted me the job had been done.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your 166?

Most Alfa Romeo 166 windscreen replacements can be completed as a mobile visit at your home or workplace. The 166 predates widespread ADAS camera systems, so no calibration is typically required after replacement — your fitter can work on-site and confirm the drive-away time before they leave.

If you prefer a workshop visit for any reason, or if your specific variant includes features that benefit from a controlled environment, we can arrange that too. Mobile fitting remains the default and most convenient option.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

About the Alfa Romeo 166

The Alfa Romeo 166 was produced from 1998 to 2007 as a luxury executive saloon, serving as Alfa Romeo's flagship model across two generations. All variants in our catalogue feature a green-tinted windscreen with a blue sun strip and solar control glass, reducing infrared heat and glare for improved cabin comfort.

Around half of the active variants offer heated windscreens with a heated wiper rest area, alongside rain sensors for automatic wiper activation — features that add convenience during wet weather. These glass options represent the premium comfort specifications typical of the 166's positioning as a high-end saloon.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

The Alfa Romeo 166 (1998–2007) predates the era of windscreen-mounted ADAS cameras, so no calibration is required. This keeps your replacement straightforward and mobile-friendly — your fitter can complete the job at your address without needing workshop equipment.

Around half of 166 variants in our catalogue feature heated windscreens with a heated wiper rest area, typically found on higher trim levels and later model years. Earlier 166s or base trims usually have standard (non-heated) glass. Our quote process identifies exactly which specification your 166 carries.

Yes. All 166 variants carry the blue sun strip as part of the factory specification, and your replacement will match it exactly. The sun strip is built into the windscreen's laminate during manufacture — a plain windscreen without the blue band would not be correct for your car.

Your fitter will typically need 45–90 minutes depending on your vehicle's condition and complexity. Once the glass is fitted and sealed, your fitter will confirm the minimum drive-away time before they leave — this depends on the adhesive used and the weather on the day.
