Mercedes R Class windscreen price, by year

Pricing varies significantly with generation and specification. Earlier R-Class models without camera systems are the most affordable to replace, while later variants equipped with the Driver Assistance Package carry higher costs due to mandatory post-replacement calibration complexity.

Solar-control glass options and encapsulated trim also influence the final figure, as does the choice between mobile fitting at home or workshop-based installation (required when calibration is needed).

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

More professional than autoglass

Polite, prompt and efficient. Contacted Uk Car Glass and autoglass for quotes, autoglass were suppose to call with in a window and they didn’t, by the time they contacted me the job had been done.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Mercedes R Class windscreen replacement

Booking your R-Class windscreen replacement through UKCG takes just minutes — here's how the process works.

  1. 1

Answer a quick quiz about your R-Class year, generation, and features (under 60 seconds) to identify your exact windscreen variant.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote and choose your preferred fitting date and location — mobile at your address or at a local workshop.

  3. 3

You'll be matched with an approved fitter in your area who sources the correct replacement glass and handles all the work.

  4. 4

On fitting day, the technician replaces your windscreen and, if your model has ADAS, performs the mandatory camera calibration (at a workshop if needed).

  5. 5

Your fitter confirms the minimum drive-away time before leaving, and your replacement is covered by a two-year warranty.

  6. 6

If you've had a rear or side window replaced, we recommend a professional valet afterwards to ensure all glass shards are thoroughly cleared from the interior.

Our network of specialists handles everything — you just book, sit back, and rely on our two-year cover.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your R Class?

Most R-Class windscreen replacements can be fitted at your home or workplace via a mobile service. However, if your R-Class carries the Driver Assistance Package with front camera systems (typically found on 2022+ models), the mandatory post-replacement calibration requires a workshop environment with specialist equipment and target boards.

When calibration is needed, the entire job — glass replacement and camera recalibration — is scheduled at one workshop location to ensure the safety-critical procedure is completed properly before you drive away.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

    What it means

    On your Mercedes R Class

  • Clear1
    2006–2023Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Mercedes R Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 windscreen variants we list (33%); model years 2006–2023; calibration varies by vehicle.

Clear windscreen glass has no tint; most cars have a slight tint as standard.

    What it means

A clear windscreen contains no added tint layer. Most modern windscreens incorporate a subtle tint (typically blue, green, grey or bronze) as standard to reduce glare, provide UV protection, and improve cabin comfort. A genuinely clear windscreen is the absence of this tint. Clear glass is less common than tinted variants and is sometimes specified for aesthetic or operational reasons, though the tint difference is usually imperceptible to the naked eye.

    How to tell

Lower your side window halfway and hold a white piece of paper behind it. If you see a noticeable colour cast (blue, green, grey or bronze) in the side glass, your windscreen has the same tint. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre to confirm the windscreen specification in your service records.

    Replacement impact

Clear windscreen replacement uses the same installation process as any other windscreen. No special calibration or extended cure time applies. Sourcing is straightforward — clear glass is widely available as an aftermarket replacement. Installation time and drive-away restrictions follow standard windscreen replacement timings. If your vehicle has ADAS features (forward-facing camera or radar), calibration may be required after replacement depending on your specific vehicle; we confirm this when we look up your car details.

Calibration mix across our Mercedes variants

    • 1None

We confirm the exact procedure for your specific vehicle when you book.

  • Coating1
    2006–2023

On the Mercedes R Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 windscreen variants we list (33%); model years 2006–2023.

Coated windscreens have a blue or purple tint and protect your car from UV rays and heat.

    What it means

A coated windscreen has a special protective layer applied to the glass that appears as a blue or purple tint and often reflects a silvery-blue colour in bright sunlight. This coating is designed to reduce the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and solar heat that enters the vehicle, helping to keep the interior cooler and protecting upholstery and dashboard components from UV damage and fading. The coating is integral to the glass and doesn't require any special maintenance from you.

    How to tell

Look at your windscreen in bright daylight — a coated windscreen will show a distinct blue or purple tint and a silvery-blue reflection when the sun hits it directly. Check your vehicle's service booklet or window sticker (usually on the driver's door jamb), which may list the glass specification. Alternatively, ask your dealership or service centre to confirm whether your windscreen carries a UV or heat-rejection coating.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a coated windscreen, the replacement glass must match the original specification — including the coating type and tint level — to maintain the same UV and heat protection and to preserve the vehicle's interior aesthetics. Original-equipment or equivalent aftermarket coated glass is sourced to specification. The coating is applied during glass manufacture; no post-fit treatment is required. Fitting and cure times are unaffected by the presence of the coating.

  • Green1
    2006–2023

On the Mercedes R Class: fitted on 1 of the 3 windscreen variants we list (33%); model years 2006–2023.

    What it means

A subtle green tint in the glass (often barely visible) that is standard on some R-Class variants.

    On your Mercedes R Class

Confirmed by the parts-check team during your booking; not a trim choice, but a factory specification.

About the Mercedes R Class

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class has been in continuous production since 2006, spanning nearly two decades of evolution across multiple generations. Early R-Class models carried straightforward laminated windscreens with basic rain sensors, while later variants introduced solar-control glass to manage cabin heat and UV protection.

From the early 2020s onwards, newer R-Class models began incorporating Driver Assistance Package systems with front windscreen-mounted cameras for lane-keeping and collision warning. This means recent examples require specialist ADAS calibration after windscreen replacement — a safety-critical procedure that ensures the camera and steering angle sensor function correctly.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

If your R-Class is fitted with the Driver Assistance Package (lane-keeping assist, collision warning, or sign recognition using a front windscreen camera), yes — calibration is mandatory and safety-critical. Older R-Class models without these systems do not require calibration.

During the quote, our parts team will confirm whether your specific variant has ADAS. If it does, your fitter will complete static camera calibration at a workshop as part of the same job.

The R-Class spans multiple generations (2006–2023) with significant variation in glass specification — from simple laminated windscreens on early models to solar-control and camera-equipped variants on newer examples. This means pricing and fitting requirements differ substantially depending on your generation.

Encapsulation is standard across all R-Class windscreens, so your replacement arrives with the rubber trim pre-bonded to the glass, making the fit straightforward for your technician.

If your R-Class requires ADAS calibration, the job must be completed at a workshop because static camera calibration needs specialist target boards and a controlled environment. We don't split the job across two locations — both the glass replacement and calibration are scheduled at the same workshop to ensure safety-critical systems are properly verified before you drive away.

Non-ADAS R-Class windscreens typically require 45–90 minutes of the fitter's time, depending on the vehicle's condition and trim complexity. ADAS-equipped models take longer because the fitter must complete static camera calibration after the glass is set — the exact duration varies by specification and equipment, but your technician will confirm timings before starting.

Drive-away time is confirmed by the fitter on the day and applies to both ADAS and non-ADAS jobs alike; calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure, so it doesn't extend the time before you can drive.
