Mercedes G Class windscreen price, by year

Price variation depends on your G-Class generation and equipment level. Early models without rain sensors or ADAS cameras are the most straightforward to replace. Mid-generation variants with rain sensors and solar-control coatings add complexity, whilst newer models with forward cameras require post-replacement calibration by a specialist technician trained in Mercedes systems — which affects the overall service cost.

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your G Class?

Most G-Class windscreen replacements can be done at your home or workplace by an approved fitter. However, if your model is fitted with a forward-facing camera for driver assistance, the replacement and mandatory calibration are carried out at a workshop in a single appointment — we don't split the job across locations to ensure safety-critical calibration is always completed.

Your fitter will confirm whether a workshop is needed during the quote process. Either way, the job typically takes a couple of hours from start to finish, and your fitter will advise your specific drive-away time before they leave.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Green5
    1997–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 5 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (71%); model years 1997–2026.

    What it means

A light tint in the glass — nearly invisible to the eye — that filters infrared and ultraviolet light. Around 90% of windscreens carry some tint, so don't be alarmed if your replacement looks identical to the original.

    On your Mercedes G Class

Standard across most G-Class variants from the 1990s onwards; confirmed during the quote process.

  • Rain Sensor5
    2012–2026No calibration after replacement

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 5 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (71%); model years 2012–2026; no calibration after replacement.

    What it means

An embedded sensor that automatically activates your wipers when rain is detected, without you having to touch the stalk. The replacement windscreen must carry the same sensor for the system to function.

    On your Mercedes G Class

Fitted to most G-Class models from the mid-2010s onwards as part of the standard sensor suite; your fitter will verify this at the quote stage.

  • Vin Notch4
    2012–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 4 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (57%); model years 2012–2026.

    What it means

A small printed box along the bottom edge of the windscreen containing your vehicle's VIN (chassis number). It must be reproduced exactly on the replacement glass so all your vehicle documentation aligns.

    On your Mercedes G Class

Present on most G-Class models from the 2010s onwards; your fitter will verify the notch placement during the quote.

  • Acoustic (Noise reduction)3
    2018–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 3 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (43%); model years 2018–2026.

Acoustic glass reduces cabin noise for a quieter, more comfortable ride.

    What it means

Acoustic windscreen glass is laminated with a special acoustic interlayer that absorbs and dampens sound vibrations. It reduces exterior noise—from traffic, wind, and road surface—before it enters the passenger compartment. This makes the cabin noticeably quieter and creates a more peaceful driving experience. It's a comfort feature, not a safety one; standard laminated windscreens already meet impact safety requirements.

    How to tell

Check your windscreen for an ear symbol, the word 'Acoustic', a capital 'A', or the term 'SoundScreen' printed in one of the four corners. These markings indicate acoustic-grade glass. You can also ask your vehicle's dealership or service centre whether your model came fitted with acoustic glass—it's often a factory option on comfort or premium trims.

    Replacement impact

Acoustic glass is always laminated and bonds to the frame like any standard windscreen, so replacement follows the normal bonded-glass procedure. No specialist calibration is required. The replacement technician will fit it using standard adhesive and sealant. Cure time and drive-away restrictions are identical to standard laminated windscreens. Acoustic glass is widely available as an aftermarket OE-equivalent option.

  • Mono Camera3
    2018–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 3 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (43%); model years 2018–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

A single camera mounted near the rear-view mirror that helps with lane-keeping and collision avoidance.

    What it means

A mono camera is a single-lens camera positioned behind the windscreen, typically in the upper centre area near the rear-view mirror. It captures the road ahead and uses computer vision to detect lane markings, vehicles, and road hazards. The camera feeds data to driver-assistance systems such as lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. It forms the visual foundation of these safety features, allowing the vehicle to monitor road position and surrounding traffic automatically.

    How to tell

Look in the black trim area above the windscreen, centred behind the rear-view mirror — you will see a small triangular lens assembly or dark lens cover. Check your vehicle handbook or ask your dealer's service department to confirm your model has lane-assistance or collision-warning features; vehicles with these systems almost always have a mono camera. Dashboard warning symbols related to lane or collision systems also indicate the presence of this camera.

    Replacement impact

When the windscreen is replaced, the camera bracket and lens assembly must be removed and carefully repositioned on the new glass. The camera may require calibration after fitting to ensure accurate road detection and lane recognition. Calibration needs vary by vehicle — we confirm the exact procedure when we look up your specific vehicle. The job may take longer than a standard windscreen replacement, and workshop facilities may be required if calibration demands a controlled environment.

  • Sensor Heated Zone3
    2018–2026Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 3 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (43%); model years 2018–2026; calibration varies by vehicle.

Heated zones around sensors prevent frost and moisture buildup, helping your safety systems work reliably.

    What it means

A sensor heated zone is an electrical heating element integrated into or around camera, radar, or sensor mounts on the windscreen. Its purpose is to prevent frost, ice, condensation, and moisture accumulation on sensor lenses and housings. This keeps safety systems — such as lane-keeping assist, collision warning, and adaptive cruise control — functioning accurately in cold, wet, or foggy conditions. Without this heating, moisture or ice can obscure sensors and cause them to malfunction or deactivate.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook for mention of 'heated sensor zone' or 'sensor heating' in the windscreen or ADAS section. Look at the top edge of your windscreen where cameras or radar modules are mounted — you may see small heating elements or wiring near these components. Ask your dealership or service centre directly: they can confirm whether your specific model includes sensor heating as standard.

    Replacement impact

Windscreens with heated sensor zones require careful handling during replacement to preserve the heating element and its electrical connections. The heating circuit must be reconnected properly after the new glass is fitted. Depending on the vehicle, this may involve static or dynamic camera calibration after installation. We confirm the exact procedure — including any calibration needs — when we look up your vehicle details.

    • 2Static

We confirm the exact procedure for your specific vehicle when you book.

  • Static Camera Calibration Process3
    2018–2026Static calibration required

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 3 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (43%); model years 2018–2026; static calibration required.

    What it means

After windscreen replacement on camera-equipped models, a specialist uses diagnostic tools and printed targets to precisely realign the forward camera whilst the vehicle is stationary indoors. This is a Mercedes-specific requirement for ADAS safety function restoration.

    On your Mercedes G Class

Required on all G-Class variants fitted with a forward camera system; your fitter will schedule this at a workshop to ensure proper alignment in a controlled environment.

  • Antenna2
    2012–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 2 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (29%); model years 2012–2026.

An aerial laminated into the windscreen or rear window restores radio, DAB or TV reception without a roof-mounted mast.

    What it means

An antenna is a conductive print laminated into the glass during manufacture, typically used for radio, DAB (digital audio broadcasting) or television reception. It replaces the traditional roof-mounted aerial mast found on older vehicles. The antenna is integrated into the glass interlayer and connected to the vehicle's receiver unit via a connector embedded in the glass edge. This design offers a cleaner aesthetic, reduces wind noise, and eliminates the vulnerability of a protruding mast to damage or theft.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's roof — if there is no visible aerial mast, your car likely has a laminated antenna. You can also ask your dealer or service centre whether your windscreen or rear window carries an antenna print. The connector may be visible on the glass edge or inside the door frame trim.

    Replacement impact

When replacing glass with a laminated antenna, the replacement must carry the matching antenna print and connector to restore reception immediately on fitting. Aftermarket or original-equipment glass with the correct antenna specification is essential; a plain replacement will leave you without radio or DAB signal. Our fitters verify the antenna specification during booking and source the correct variant before the appointment.

  • Coating2
    2018–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 2 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (29%); model years 2018–2026.

Coated windscreens have a blue or purple tint and protect your car from UV rays and heat.

    What it means

A coated windscreen has a special protective layer applied to the glass that appears as a blue or purple tint and often reflects a silvery-blue colour in bright sunlight. This coating is designed to reduce the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and solar heat that enters the vehicle, helping to keep the interior cooler and protecting upholstery and dashboard components from UV damage and fading. The coating is integral to the glass and doesn't require any special maintenance from you.

    How to tell

Look at your windscreen in bright daylight — a coated windscreen will show a distinct blue or purple tint and a silvery-blue reflection when the sun hits it directly. Check your vehicle's service booklet or window sticker (usually on the driver's door jamb), which may list the glass specification. Alternatively, ask your dealership or service centre to confirm whether your windscreen carries a UV or heat-rejection coating.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a coated windscreen, the replacement glass must match the original specification — including the coating type and tint level — to maintain the same UV and heat protection and to preserve the vehicle's interior aesthetics. Original-equipment or equivalent aftermarket coated glass is sourced to specification. The coating is applied during glass manufacture; no post-fit treatment is required. Fitting and cure times are unaffected by the presence of the coating.

  • Heated Coating2
    2018–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 2 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (29%); model years 2018–2026.

A transparent heating layer in the glass defrosts and defogs the windscreen evenly without visible wires.

    What it means

Heated coatings are a transparent conductive layer embedded within the laminated windscreen glass itself. Rather than using visible heating filaments, this coating distributes heat evenly across the entire surface when energised. The system defrosts and defogs the windscreen efficiently, typically faster than conventional filament designs, and operates at lower energy consumption. The coating is invisible to the driver and functions as part of the vehicle's climate control system.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's windscreen for the absence of visible heating wires or grid lines. Ask your dealership or service centre whether your car has a coated (invisible) heating system rather than filament-based heating. You can also check your handbook under climate control or windscreen features.

    Replacement impact

Replacement glass must carry the same transparent conductive coating for the heating circuit to function. The coating is applied during manufacturing and cannot be added afterwards. Your replacement windscreen will be sourced as an OE (original equipment) or equivalent coated variant to ensure heating performance. No additional calibration or curing implications arise from the coating itself.

  • Heat Reflective2
    2018–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 2 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (29%); model years 2018–2026.

Heat-reflective tinting reduces solar gain and cabin temperature, often visible as a darker shade near the windscreen's top edge.

    What it means

Heat-reflective tinting is a specially formulated layer applied to the windscreen—usually concentrated in the upper band near the black dots (the frit)—designed to reflect solar radiation and reduce heat buildup inside the vehicle. This helps maintain cabin comfort, reduces air-conditioning load, and can protect interior materials from UV damage. The tint is typically darker or noticeably different in colour than the front side windows, which remain clear or lightly tinted.

    How to tell

Look at your windscreen from inside the vehicle and compare the tint colour to your front side windows. Heat-reflective windscreens often have a visibly darker or warmer tone, especially in the upper portion within 2 cm of the black-dot edge (the frit). You can also check your vehicle's specification sheet or ask your dealership service centre whether your model includes heat-reflective glazing.

    Replacement impact

Replacement windscreens with heat-reflective tinting must be sourced to the exact specification of your original glass—aftermarket equivalents are available but must match the tint density and reflective properties. The tinting is integral to the glass itself and cannot be applied afterwards. No calibration is required. The windscreen is bonded in place and cure time applies as standard.

  • Light Sensor2
    2018–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 2 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (29%); model years 2018–2026.

Light sensors automatically turn your headlights on at dusk or in tunnels; the replacement windscreen must include the sensor bracket.

    What it means

A light sensor is a small optical detector mounted on the windscreen or dashboard that monitors ambient light levels. When light drops below a threshold—at dusk or when entering a tunnel—it triggers your headlights to switch on automatically. This removes the need to manually operate the lights and improves safety by ensuring visibility when conditions darken suddenly. The sensor is typically mounted behind the windscreen's top edge or integrated into the interior mirror housing, where it has an unobstructed view of the sky.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or ask your dealer whether your car has automatic headlight control or 'auto lights' as a feature. If equipped, you'll see a symbol on the stalk or dashboard dial marked with a light-bulb icon or 'AUTO' setting. When you select this mode and the ambient light dims, the headlights activate without manual input. Not all cars have this feature; it's typically found on newer or higher-specification models.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen on a vehicle with a light sensor, the replacement glass must include the correct sensor bracket or mounting point to preserve the auto-headlight function. The sensor itself does not require software calibration—it relies on physical positioning behind the windscreen's upper trim or within the mirror assembly. Ensuring the bracket is correctly installed during the fit is essential; if omitted, the auto-light feature will fail and cannot be restored without additional parts and labour.

  • Solar Control2
    2012–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 2 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (29%); model years 2012–2026.

    What it means

A special coating that absorbs the sun's infrared rays, keeping the cabin cooler and reducing air-conditioning load. The coating is transparent but must be matched exactly on replacement so the thermal benefit is preserved.

    On your Mercedes G Class

Typically fitted to higher-spec G-Class variants and newer models; confirmed during the quote.

  • Blue Sun Strip1
    1997–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 1 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (14%); model years 1997–2026.

A blue-tinted gradient band across the top of your windscreen that reduces glare without affecting your view of the road.

    What it means

A blue sun strip is a tinted gradient band built into the upper edge of your windscreen's laminate layer. It reduces glare from sunlight reflecting off the road and bonnet without darkening your main field of vision. The tint is created during manufacture as part of the glass laminate itself — it cannot be added or removed later. Sun strips are a windscreen-only feature; rear and side windows cannot carry this effect because they use tempered rather than laminated glass.

    How to tell

Look at the top of your windscreen from inside the car — you'll see a distinct blue-tinted band running horizontally across the upper portion. Check your vehicle's specification sheet or ask your dealership service centre whether your windscreen is listed as a 'blue sun strip' or 'tinted sun strip' variant. Your invoice or parts manual will confirm it.

    Replacement impact

When replacing a windscreen with a blue sun strip, the replacement must be the sun-strip variant — a standard plain windscreen will not replicate the tinted band. Your replacement glass is sourced as an exact match to your original specification. There are no additional calibration or cure implications beyond a standard windscreen replacement. Fitting and drive-away times remain unchanged.

  • Heated Windscreen1
    2012–2026

On the Mercedes G Class: fitted on 1 of the 7 windscreen variants we list (14%); model years 2012–2026.

Heated windscreens use embedded wires to quickly clear ice and condensation in cold weather.

    What it means

A heated windscreen is integrated with a fine mesh of electrical wires embedded within the glass itself. When activated, these wires generate heat to warm the windscreen surface, helping to rapidly clear frost, ice, and condensation during cold or damp conditions. This feature improves visibility and safety in winter driving and reduces reliance on engine heat and demister air, which can be slower on very cold mornings.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealership service centre — they can confirm whether your model includes this feature. Look for a dashboard symbol (usually a windscreen icon with heat waves) when you activate the function, or check your infotainment settings for a heating or climate option linked to the windscreen. Some vehicles have a dedicated button on the stalk or console.

    Replacement impact

Heated windscreens require replacement glass to be of the correct heated specification — standard unheated glass cannot be fitted. The replacement glass must be sourced to match your vehicle's exact heated-wire configuration. Installation is straightforward, though the technician will confirm the heating element is functioning correctly after fitting. No calibration is required for this feature.

About the Mercedes G Class

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the longest-running production SUVs, spanning over four decades with remarkably consistent design. Early models carry straightforward laminated windscreens, while later generations from the mid-2010s onwards feature rain sensors, solar-control glass, and VIN notches as standard.

From approximately 2022 onwards, newer G-Class variants have been equipped with forward-facing cameras for advanced driver assistance systems — part of Mercedes' Driver Assistance Package suite. These ADAS-equipped windscreens require specialist calibration after replacement to restore lane-keeping and collision-warning functions.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

Only if your model is fitted with a forward-facing camera for Mercedes' Driver Assistance Package (typically 2022 onwards). If you have a camera, static calibration is mandatory — our fitter uses diagnostic tools and printed targets to realign it indoors. If your G-Class predates ADAS cameras, no calibration is needed.

Calibration is included in the quote and is completed at the same workshop visit as the replacement, so there's no second appointment.

Around 90% of windscreens carry a subtle tint — it's almost invisible to the eye but filters infrared and ultraviolet light. Your replacement is matched to your factory specification, so it has the same tint. This is completely normal and is not a sign of a used or inferior glass.

Yes — your replacement windscreen is specified to match your original factory glass, including all embedded sensors and coatings. The rain sensor and solar-control layer (if fitted) are built into the new glass and will function immediately after installation.

If your windscreen also carries an antenna or heated coating, these are transferred or matched in the same way.

Yes, we can help with classic G-Class models. Glass availability depends on the specific year and variant, but our network of specialists sources parts through established suppliers. Supply times may be longer for older models, so contact us with your VIN or variant details for a bespoke quote.
