Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car

Had to replace the windscreen on our 18 year old car because it had become dangerous due to thousands of micro chips. The low winter sun made it impossible to see out of. Searching online found UK Car Glass. The price was reasonable and I made an online booking for 2 days later. Unfortunately due to storms a nice lady from the company phoned me and asked if we could postpone fitting for 2 days till the weather cleared which was no problem. The fitter turned up as promised and the job was done within half an hour. Overall a good experience. UK Car Glass appear to be a nationwide company who sub contract to existing windscreen fitting companies. In view of this it may be worthwhile directly contacting a local firm first to check their pricing as it's possible they may be a bit cheaper because their won't be a middleman. However, I've no complaints. Ease of booking, communication etc is excellent.

More professional than autoglass

Polite, prompt and efficient. Contacted Uk Car Glass and autoglass for quotes, autoglass were suppose to call with in a window and they didn’t, by the time they contacted me the job had been done.

Very happy with UK car glass

Very happy with UK car glass. They offered the lowest quote and an online booking service. After an initial confirmation email, I heard nothing further for a week, so I called to check that my car was still booked in for a new windscreen. I was informed that it was and they would be in touch to confirm the ETA. The team kept me informed over the weekend, the technician called and updated me again on the day, and arrived when he said he would. The screen was changed efficiently and the technician was polite and helpful. I would use the company again and recommend UK car glass to others.

What to expect during your Alfa Romeo Stelvio windscreen replacement

Booking your Stelvio windscreen replacement through UK Car Glass takes just a couple of minutes from quote to confirmation.

  1. 1

Complete an instant online quote using our guided quiz — identify your Stelvio's year, trim, and features in under 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Review your quote and proceed to online checkout; the full booking is confirmed in under two minutes.

  3. 3

Our parts-check team verifies your replacement glass matches your factory specification, including the camera bracket, encapsulation trim, and acoustic interlayer.

  4. 4

You're matched with a specialist in your area — they'll discuss whether mobile fitting at your address or a workshop visit suits your situation best.

  5. 5

On fitting day, your technician replaces the windscreen and completes ADAS camera calibration (this runs in parallel with adhesive cure, so it doesn't extend drive-away time).

  6. 6

Your fitter confirms the minimum drive-away time before leaving, and you're covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and glass quality.

If calibration is required, the job is scheduled at a workshop location to ensure the camera is recalibrated safely using static target boards.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Stelvio?

Every Stelvio windscreen replacement requires static camera calibration after the glass is fitted, using fixed target boards in a controlled environment. This means your job will be scheduled at one of our partner workshops rather than at your home address — the no-split rule ensures calibration happens safely and can't be skipped.

Calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure, so it doesn't add time before you can drive away. Your fitter will confirm the drive-away time on the day.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

  • Mono Camera2
    2017–2027Calibration varies by vehicle

On the Alfa Romeo Stelvio: fitted on 2 of the 3 windscreen variants we list (67%); model years 2017–2027; calibration varies by vehicle.

A single camera mounted near the rear-view mirror that helps with lane-keeping and collision avoidance.

    What it means

A mono camera is a single-lens camera positioned behind the windscreen, typically in the upper centre area near the rear-view mirror. It captures the road ahead and uses computer vision to detect lane markings, vehicles, and road hazards. The camera feeds data to driver-assistance systems such as lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. It forms the visual foundation of these safety features, allowing the vehicle to monitor road position and surrounding traffic automatically.

    How to tell

Look in the black trim area above the windscreen, centred behind the rear-view mirror — you will see a small triangular lens assembly or dark lens cover. Check your vehicle handbook or ask your dealer's service department to confirm your model has lane-assistance or collision-warning features; vehicles with these systems almost always have a mono camera. Dashboard warning symbols related to lane or collision systems also indicate the presence of this camera.

    Replacement impact

When the windscreen is replaced, the camera bracket and lens assembly must be removed and carefully repositioned on the new glass. The camera may require calibration after fitting to ensure accurate road detection and lane recognition. Calibration needs vary by vehicle — we confirm the exact procedure when we look up your specific vehicle. The job may take longer than a standard windscreen replacement, and workshop facilities may be required if calibration demands a controlled environment.

  • Heat Absorbing PVB1
    2017–2027

On the Alfa Romeo Stelvio: fitted on 1 of the 3 windscreen variants we list (33%); model years 2017–2027.

Heat-absorbing PVB interlayer reduces solar gain and cabin temperature on warm days—but must match your original spec.

    What it means

Heat-absorbing PVB is a specially formulated interlayer sandwiched between the glass plies in your windscreen. It absorbs a portion of the sun's infrared radiation before it enters the cabin, reducing solar heat gain on warm days. This keeps the interior cooler and reduces air-conditioning workload. The feature is built into the glass during manufacture and cannot be added or removed after production. If your vehicle left the factory with this interlayer, any replacement windscreen must carry the same PVB specification to maintain the original thermal performance.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's specification sheet or handbook—heat-absorbing PVB is listed under windscreen or glass specification. You can also ask your dealership service centre or provide us with your vehicle registration; we'll confirm whether your car came with this feature as standard or as an option.

    Replacement impact

Replacement windscreens with heat-absorbing PVB must be sourced to the exact OE specification—aftermarket alternatives with standard PVB will not deliver the same solar-control performance. We ensure the correct spec is ordered before the fit. No calibration is required. Installation and cure procedures are identical to standard windscreen replacement; the interlayer is integral to the glass and requires no additional treatment.

About the Alfa Romeo Stelvio

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio has been in continuous production since 2017, built on the same Giorgio platform as the Giulia saloon. Every Stelvio windscreen features advanced ADAS technology with a front-facing camera for lane assistance and adaptive cruise control, paired with rain sensors and acoustic noise-reduction glass as standard across all variants.

From launch, Stelvio windscreens have arrived with green-tinted laminated glass, encapsulation moulding, and a VIN notch along the bottom edge. The camera mounting bracket sits integrated into the windscreen's top trim, and all current variants carry the heat-absorbing PVB interlayer to reduce cabin solar gain on warmer days.

Frequently asked questions

The questions customers ask us most often.

You don't need to know. Our online widget asks a few quick questions — make, model, year, and a couple of feature details — to narrow the variant down. Once booked, our parts check team verifies the exact specification against your VIN before the job is dispatched.

Almost always, yes, where a forward-facing camera is fitted. The technicians in our network include ADAS-calibration-certified specialists — we confirm whether your job needs a workshop or can complete on your driveway when we book.

Your replacement glass matches your original factory specification — same size, features and trim fitment as the glass the car left the factory with. It's UK-approved for the road and typically supplied by tier-1 manufacturers like Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, and AGC.

OEM-branded glass (with the vehicle-maker logo) is available on request at a higher price.

Most windscreen replacements happen at your chosen location — home, office, or car park. Some jobs are better suited to a workshop — for example, windscreens with ADAS cameras needing static calibration, or where access to power, shelter, or controlled conditions makes the work safer indoors. We let you know when we confirm your booking.

Most windscreen replacements take 45–90 minutes of the technician's time. ADAS calibration extends the technician's time on the job, but cure time runs in parallel — so it doesn't usually delay when you can drive. Your technician will confirm exact timings on the day.

Most UK comprehensive policies include glass cover, typically with an excess of £75–£100. If your insurer is on our approved list, the specialist you're matched with bills them directly and you just pay the excess.

Otherwise you can pay UK Car Glass directly and claim back from your insurer — our all-inclusive price is often lower than the excess anyway, so paying direct can work out cheaper.

Two years on workmanship defects — water leaks, wind noise, bonding failures — from the date of replacement. If the specialist's work isn't right, we arrange to put it right under the warranty process.

Yes. Every Stelvio carries a forward-facing ADAS camera for lane assist and adaptive cruise control. After windscreen replacement, that camera must be recalibrated using static targets to ensure it works safely.

This is a safety-critical step, not optional — it's built into every Stelvio windscreen job on our network.

Yes. Your replacement glass matches your factory specification exactly — acoustic laminate, green tint, rain sensor, camera bracket, encapsulation trim, and the VIN notch. Our parts-check team verifies this at the post-booking stage, so there are no surprises on fitting day.

Because ADAS calibration is required, your Stelvio windscreen replacement is scheduled at a workshop location. We don't split the job across two sites — replacement and calibration happen at the same location under controlled conditions.

You'll be matched with a workshop specialist in your area, and you can discuss any specific requirements (accessibility, timing) when you book.

Windscreen replacement and ADAS calibration typically completes within a couple of hours wall-clock time — your fitter's active work takes longer than a standard non-ADAS job because calibration is included, but the calibration runs in parallel with adhesive cure so drive-away time isn't extended.

Your fitter will confirm the exact minimum drive-away time on the day based on the adhesive product used and weather conditions.
