Overall a positive experience

Apart from a slight mix up with fitting dates I don't have a bad word to say about my glass replacement. Ash, the fitter, got in touch to confirm the correct glass had been ordered and to assure me of his arrival time. He and his colleague turned up on time and were polite, pleasant and efficient. They cleaned up really well and left me feeling pleased I had chosen UK Car Glass to replace my broken window. I'd have no doubts about recommending this firm to anyone needing a car window replacing.

What to expect during your Volkswagen Caddy rear window replacement

Booking your Caddy rear-window replacement is straightforward — from instant quote to fitting day.

  1. 1

Answer a short quiz about your Caddy (year, trim, and features) to get an instant quote.

  2. 2

Proceed to checkout and choose your preferred fitting location — mobile at your address or a workshop near you.

  3. 3

Our team matches you with an approved technician in your area and confirms your booking.

  4. 4

On fitting day, your technician removes the shattered rear window, cleans accessible glass shards, and bonds in the replacement.

  5. 5

A shattered rear window means small glass fragments can lodge in places the fitter can't reach during the job — we recommend a professional interior valet afterwards for thorough detailing.

  6. 6

Your replacement is covered by a two-year warranty on workmanship and glass quality.

Backed by independent specialist fitters and two-year warranty protection, your Caddy is back on the road with confidence.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Caddy?

Most Caddy rear-window replacements can be fitted mobile at your address — your van doesn't require camera calibration like some modern windscreens do. Workshop fitting is entirely optional and useful if you prefer a controlled environment or if weather conditions aren't ideal for a roadside job.

Your technician will discuss your preference at booking and confirm the location before the fitting day.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

What features does your Caddy have?

  • Heated Rear Windscreen10
    1994–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 10 of the 12 rear window variants we list (83%); model years 1994–2026.

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

  • Green8
    1994–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 8 of the 12 rear window variants we list (67%); model years 1994–2026.

    What it means

A subtle green tint on the glass — hard to spot at first glance but standard on most Caddy models.

    On your Volkswagen Caddy

Confirmed during the quote process once you've entered your Caddy's details; no self-inspection needed.

  • Heated Windscreen5
    2004–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 5 of the 12 rear window variants we list (42%); model years 2004–2026.

Heated windscreens use embedded wires to quickly clear ice and condensation in cold weather.

    What it means

A heated windscreen is integrated with a fine mesh of electrical wires embedded within the glass itself. When activated, these wires generate heat to warm the windscreen surface, helping to rapidly clear frost, ice, and condensation during cold or damp conditions. This feature improves visibility and safety in winter driving and reduces reliance on engine heat and demister air, which can be slower on very cold mornings.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's handbook or contact your dealership service centre — they can confirm whether your model includes this feature. Look for a dashboard symbol (usually a windscreen icon with heat waves) when you activate the function, or check your infotainment settings for a heating or climate option linked to the windscreen. Some vehicles have a dedicated button on the stalk or console.

    Replacement impact

Heated windscreens require replacement glass to be of the correct heated specification — standard unheated glass cannot be fitted. The replacement glass must be sourced to match your vehicle's exact heated-wire configuration. Installation is straightforward, though the technician will confirm the heating element is functioning correctly after fitting. No calibration is required for this feature.

  • Solar Control5
    2004–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 5 of the 12 rear window variants we list (42%); model years 2004–2026.

    What it means

A special coating that absorbs the sun's infrared rays, helping keep your van cooler on hot days.

    On your Volkswagen Caddy

Typically found on mid-range and higher-spec Caddies from the mid-2010s onwards; your quote will verify it.

  • Dark Green2
    2004–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 2 of the 12 rear window variants we list (17%); model years 2004–2026.

    What it means

The rear door windows are noticeably darker than the front windows, providing extra privacy in the cargo area.

    On your Volkswagen Caddy

Visible as a darker tint on the rear-side windows compared to the windscreen; confirmed during your quote.

  • Dark Grey2
    2004–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 2 of the 12 rear window variants we list (17%); model years 2004–2026.

    What it means

Similar to dark green but with a grey tone — rear windows darker than front for added cargo privacy.

    On your Volkswagen Caddy

Confirmed as part of your vehicle's specification during the booking quiz.

  • Unheated Rear Windscreen2
    2004–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 2 of the 12 rear window variants we list (17%); model years 2004–2026.

A rear window without heating elements — selected when the model's standard specification includes a heated rear glass option.

    What it means

An unheated rear window is a variant specification where the rear glass does not include integrated electric heating wires. Many vehicle models offer heated rear glass as standard or as an option to demist the window quickly in cold or wet conditions. An unheated rear window omits this feature entirely. It is a cost-conscious choice and remains fully functional for visibility and weather protection — demisting simply takes longer and relies on the vehicle's cabin heating system alone.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's specification sheet or service documentation. If your model range lists 'heated rear window' or 'rear demister' as a standard or optional feature and your car does not have it, you have an unheated variant. You can also look at the rear window itself — a heated rear window shows a faint pattern of horizontal heating wires when you look closely at the glass. An unheated window appears completely clear with no wire pattern visible.

    Replacement impact

Replacement glass must match your original specification. If your vehicle has an unheated rear window, the replacement must also be unheated — you cannot fit a heated variant without additional wiring and control-module work, which falls outside standard glass replacement scope. Conversely, if heated glass is standard for your model and you wish to stay unheated, confirm this choice at booking. No calibration is involved with rear-window replacement.

  • Brake Light1
    1995–2026

On the Volkswagen Caddy: fitted on 1 of the 12 rear window variants we list (8%); model years 1995–2026.

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass itself, requiring a matching replacement to reconnect the original lighting circuit.

    What it means

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass is a lighting element built directly into the glass panel during manufacturing. Rather than using a separate lamp cluster mounted to the vehicle body, the light circuit is routed through conductive elements — typically a silkscreen pattern, wire network, or bracket assembly — embedded in or bonded to the glass itself. When you brake, this integrated light illuminates to warn following traffic. It combines functionality with design integration, reducing the number of separate components on the rear of the vehicle.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's rear window for a visible pattern of fine lines or wires running across the glass, usually near the top edge or spanning the upper portion. Look at your vehicle's manual or contact your dealer's service centre — they can confirm whether your rear window carries an integrated brake light. If you see a separate brake-light cluster mounted to the bodywork instead, your vehicle does not have this feature.

    Replacement impact

The replacement rear window must carry the identical integrated brake-light pattern so the original lighting circuit reconnects without modification. The conductive elements — whether silkscreen, wiring, or bracket fittings — must align precisely with the vehicle's electrical connections. Using a standard rear window without this pattern would disable the brake light. We source the correct OE-specification glass to ensure a seamless fit and restore full functionality.

About the Volkswagen Caddy

The Volkswagen Caddy has been a light commercial favourite since 1994, evolving through multiple generations as a compact, versatile van. Rear windows on modern Caddies are typically toughened glass — designed to shatter safely if struck — and many carry factory tinting, commonly in a subtle green or dark grey shade.

Older Caddies and some basic trim levels feature unheated rear windows, whilst later generations often include integrated rear heating for defrost capability. Some higher-spec variants also incorporate solar-control coating to reduce cabin heat in summer, a feature that affects replacement cost and availability.
