Toyota Grand Prius rear window price, by year

Pricing varies with generation and the presence of ADAS equipment on the windscreen. Earlier models without driver-assistance systems are generally the most straightforward to replace. Later variants with Toyota Safety Sense and associated camera housings require post-replacement calibration, which adds to the technician's scope and cost.

Excellent service from first enquiry through to fitting. I was sceptical at first and carried out various checks. All proved positive. 11/10. Highly recommended.

5 stars from start to finish

I received an instant quote from UK Car Glass, £200 cheaper than a competitor for a full windscreen replacement. Booked it, technician arrived when he said he would, communication throughout was outstanding and the work done was top notch. I couldn't fault the service I received, 5 stars.

Booking on line took order and confirmed the window screen replacement for this Tuesday, arranged to travel and take time from work only to get an email today to say can not be done until next week. Terrible service (or lack of service)

Misleading pricing practice

I submitted the details of my vehicle including license plate (from which they can get the VIN) and was given a quote for a replacement windscreen with calibration and home installation. It was a good price compared to competitors and the technician would have been able to repair at home. I accepted the quote and made payment for £889.11, and waited for the confirmation of date and time of installment. 18 hours later I received a call saying that a technician would be able to come out tomorrow to install, however the price quoted was incorrect and in fact it would be £200 more expensive as they got the windscreen part number wrong. Very annoying and potentially misleading pricing practice. I told them to recredit my card and that I would look elsewhere

What to expect during your Toyota Grand Prius rear window replacement

Booking your rear-window replacement through UK Car Glass takes just a few minutes online, and the process is straightforward from start to fit.

  1. 1

Answer a quick quiz about your Grand Prius variant (year, trim, features) — takes about 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Receive an instant quote and choose your fitting date.

  3. 3

Our team confirms the exact glass specification and checks it's in stock.

  4. 4

A specialist from our network fits the glass at your chosen location — typically 30–60 minutes of their time, including shard cleanup.

  5. 5

Your fitter confirms the drive-away time before finishing.

  6. 6

You're covered by a two-year warranty on the work and glass.

If you need an interior valet afterwards to remove any deeply lodged shards, we recommend arranging that separately — glass fragments can settle in places the fitter can't access on the day.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Grand Prius?

Most rear-window replacements for the Grand Prius are carried out mobile at your address — the fitter attends with everything needed for the fit and shard cleanup. A workshop visit is not typically required for rear-window jobs, as there is no ADAS calibration involved. Your fitter will confirm the best location during booking.

  • Grey Privacy1
    2012–2017

Dark grey tint on rear windows provides privacy and reduces interior heat and glare.

    What it means

Dark grey tint, formally known as privacy glass, is a factory-applied tint created through a deep-dipping process during glass manufacture. The pigment is infused into the inner surface of the glass, darkening the rear windows (and sometimes rear doors) significantly more than the front. This reduces heat transmission, minimises glare, and obscures the interior from outside view. It's standard on the rear half of many modern vehicles.

    How to tell

Compare the rear side windows and rear window (backlight) to the front side windows — the rear glass will be noticeably darker. Check your vehicle documents or ask your dealership service centre if you're unsure whether your car left the factory with privacy glass.

    Replacement impact

Dark grey tinted glass must be sourced from the Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) or dealership to ensure colour and transmission match your vehicle's existing rear glass. The tint is integral to the glass itself, not a surface coating, so aftermarket non-tinted glass will look visibly mismatched. Replacement does not require any calibration and follows standard bonded-glass cure times for rear windows.

  • Heated Rear Windscreen1
    2012–2017

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

About the Toyota Grand Prius

The Toyota Grand Prius has been in production since 2012, evolving through multiple generations with consistent design language but steadily increasing electronic integration.

Rear windows across the range are toughened glass — shattered glass means shard cleanup is part of the replacement job, though small fragments can lodge in places fitters can't always reach on the day. All current variants feature dark-tinted rear side windows as standard, paired with the lighter windscreen tint at the front.

Modern Grand Prius models incorporate Toyota Safety Sense, the brand's driver-assistance suite. Windscreens on equipped variants may carry a camera bracket for the forward-facing sensor, requiring specialist calibration after replacement.
