Land Rover Discovery rear window price, by year

Pricing varies across Discovery generations and spec levels, driven primarily by generation differences and the presence of optional features. Variants with solar-control glass, integrated antenna elements, or heated rear windows command higher replacement costs due to their complexity.

Newest models with ADAS-equipped front cameras require post-fitting calibration, which typically means workshop fitting rather than mobile. Earlier Discovery models without these systems are generally more straightforward and often more affordable to replace.

From start to finish absolutely…

From start to finish absolutely brilliant service. I contacted via a quote on line. Got a very quick response, then I emailed a query and they got back to me straight away. I booked on line on Monday and had a technician on Tuesday. Ben was brilliant, told me he was coming between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, arrived on time, was friendly, explained everything he had to do, worked quickly and efficiently. He showed me the work at the end, got me to check it all worked correctly and inspect his work. I could not be happier with the service from the first contact to the completion - thoroughly recommend.

What to expect during your Land Rover Discovery rear window replacement

Here's how the rear-window replacement process works from quote to fitted.

  1. 1

Start with an instant online quote through our guided discovery tool — takes around a minute.

  2. 2

Our parts-check team verifies the exact rear-window specification for your variant (tint, antenna, heating, fitting hardware).

  3. 3

You're matched with an approved fitter in your area who sources the correct replacement glass and schedules the fitting.

  4. 4

On fitting day, your fitter removes the shattered original glass and fits the replacement, typically completing the job within 30–60 minutes of active work.

  5. 5

A shattered rear window means shard cleanup is a major part of the job; your fitter will remove accessible glass, but we recommend a professional valet afterwards for thorough detailing, as shards can lodge in places difficult to reach on the day.

  6. 6

Your replacement comes with a two-year warranty covering workmanship and glass quality.

The whole process, from quote to booking, takes under two minutes online.

Mobile fitting or workshop visit for your Discovery?

Most Discovery rear-window replacements are fitted mobile at your address, and your fitter will confirm the drive-away time before leaving. However, if your Discovery is equipped with the InControl driver assistance suite (lane keeping, collision warning, lane departure systems), the front-facing camera will need static calibration after replacement.

When calibration is required, the entire job — replacement and calibration — is scheduled at a workshop to ensure the camera alignment is precise and safety systems are working correctly. This means a longer booking window, but calibration runs alongside adhesive cure, so it doesn't extend the drive-away time.

We confirm the specific answer for your vehicle when you book.

What features does your Discovery have?

  • Heated Rear Windscreen9
    1989–2026

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on every one of the 9 rear window variants we list; model years 1989–2026.

Heated rear windscreen with integrated wires clears mist and ice when you switch on the demister.

    What it means

A heated rear windscreen contains fine heating wires embedded within the glass. When you activate the rear demister, an electrical current passes through these wires, warming the glass and melting ice or condensation. This feature is particularly useful in cold or damp weather, improving rear visibility quickly. The heating grid is integral to the glass and connected to your vehicle's electrical circuit via connectors at the base of the windscreen.

    How to tell

Look at the rear windscreen from inside the vehicle — you will see a fine grid of horizontal lines across the glass, typically bronze or copper in colour. On the dashboard or steering wheel stalk, there will be a dedicated rear-demist button, usually marked with a windscreen symbol and heating lines. If in doubt, ask your vehicle's service centre or consult your handbook.

    Replacement impact

Replacement rear windscreens with heated grids are widely available as original-equipment aftermarket or dealership parts. The new glass must include the factory heating grid and electrical connectors intact. The technician will reconnect the heating circuit to your vehicle's rear-demist switch. Heated rear windscreens are bonded glass, so adhesive cure time applies; drive-away time will be confirmed by the fitter on the day.

  • Green6
    1989–2026

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on 6 of the 9 rear window variants we list (67%); model years 1989–2026.

    What it means

A subtle green tint in the glass, hard to spot but present on about 90% of Discovery rear windows — it's rarely noticeable unless you look carefully.

    On your Land Rover Discovery

Confirmed during the quote process when your fitter checks your variant; most Discovery generations from the early 2000s onwards carry this tint as standard.

  • Solar Control4
    1999–2026

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on 4 of the 9 rear window variants we list (44%); model years 1999–2026.

    What it means

A special coating on the rear window that absorbs the sun's infrared rays, reducing cabin heat — a comfort feature found on more premium trim levels.

    On your Land Rover Discovery

Typically available on mid-range and higher trims from the 2010s onwards; your fitter will identify it during the variant check.

  • Antenna2
    2004–2009

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on 2 of the 9 rear window variants we list (22%); model years 2004–2009.

    What it means

An integrated antenna laminated into the rear glass, replacing a traditional aerial — ensures radio, DAB and TV signals are restored exactly when the glass is replaced.

    On your Land Rover Discovery

Found on some Land Rover Discovery models, particularly the LR3 and LR4 (2005–2017); the replacement must carry the same antenna pattern and connector so reception isn't lost.

  • Green Privacy2
    2004–2014

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on 2 of the 9 rear window variants we list (22%); model years 2004–2014.

Dark green tint on rear and side windows is a factory colour choice, not a safety or performance feature.

    What it means

Dark green is a factory tint applied to the glass during manufacture. It's purely aesthetic — a colour variant chosen by the vehicle designer to complement the body paint and interior trim. Unlike some tints that reduce solar heat or glare, dark green is decorative. Most vehicles have standard or light green glass; dark green is less common and typically found on specific trim levels or model years.

    How to tell

Look at your rear and side windows from outside the car in daylight. If they appear noticeably darker or more saturated green than the front windscreen, you likely have dark green glass. You can also check your vehicle's specification sheet from the dealer or original documentation — tint colour is sometimes listed under 'glass' or 'exterior finishes'. If uncertain, ask your local dealership service centre.

    Replacement impact

Dark green replacement glass must match the original tint colour exactly — a standard or light green windscreen will look visibly mismatched against dark green rear windows. Sourcing the correct variant can take slightly longer than standard glass, as it's less common. No calibration is involved with tinted glass itself. Fitting and cure time are unaffected.

  • Brake Light1
    1999–2004

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on 1 of the 9 rear window variants we list (11%); model years 1999–2004.

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass itself, requiring a matching replacement to reconnect the original lighting circuit.

    What it means

A brake light integrated into the rear window glass is a lighting element built directly into the glass panel during manufacturing. Rather than using a separate lamp cluster mounted to the vehicle body, the light circuit is routed through conductive elements — typically a silkscreen pattern, wire network, or bracket assembly — embedded in or bonded to the glass itself. When you brake, this integrated light illuminates to warn following traffic. It combines functionality with design integration, reducing the number of separate components on the rear of the vehicle.

    How to tell

Check your vehicle's rear window for a visible pattern of fine lines or wires running across the glass, usually near the top edge or spanning the upper portion. Look at your vehicle's manual or contact your dealer's service centre — they can confirm whether your rear window carries an integrated brake light. If you see a separate brake-light cluster mounted to the bodywork instead, your vehicle does not have this feature.

    Replacement impact

The replacement rear window must carry the identical integrated brake-light pattern so the original lighting circuit reconnects without modification. The conductive elements — whether silkscreen, wiring, or bracket fittings — must align precisely with the vehicle's electrical connections. Using a standard rear window without this pattern would disable the brake light. We source the correct OE-specification glass to ensure a seamless fit and restore full functionality.

  • Grey Privacy1
    2017–2026

On the Land Rover Discovery: fitted on 1 of the 9 rear window variants we list (11%); model years 2017–2026.

Dark grey tint on rear windows provides privacy and reduces interior heat and glare.

    What it means

Dark grey tint, formally known as privacy glass, is a factory-applied tint created through a deep-dipping process during glass manufacture. The pigment is infused into the inner surface of the glass, darkening the rear windows (and sometimes rear doors) significantly more than the front. This reduces heat transmission, minimises glare, and obscures the interior from outside view. It's standard on the rear half of many modern vehicles.

    How to tell

Compare the rear side windows and rear window (backlight) to the front side windows — the rear glass will be noticeably darker. Check your vehicle documents or ask your dealership service centre if you're unsure whether your car left the factory with privacy glass.

    Replacement impact

Dark grey tinted glass must be sourced from the Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) or dealership to ensure colour and transmission match your vehicle's existing rear glass. The tint is integral to the glass itself, not a surface coating, so aftermarket non-tinted glass will look visibly mismatched. Replacement does not require any calibration and follows standard bonded-glass cure times for rear windows.

About the Land Rover Discovery

The Land Rover Discovery has evolved through multiple generations since 1989, with each iteration bringing different glass specifications. Early models carried straightforward laminated windscreens, while later variants from the 2000s onwards introduced green-tinted glass as standard across front and rear windows.

From the mid-2010s onwards, many Discovery variants gained solar-control glass to reduce cabin heat, and some higher-spec models feature integrated antenna elements in the rear window for improved radio reception. Heated rear windows also appear on certain model years, combining heat and antenna functionality into a single unit.

Modern Discoveries equipped with the InControl driver assistance suite include front-facing cameras for lane keeping, collision warning, and lane departure systems — meaning rear-window replacement may require static camera calibration after fitting, which is completed as part of the service.
