The most common reason for a spreading crack is a change in temperature. If you have any damage to your windscreen, it’s important to get it repaired as soon as possible. Cracks also spread in relation to their position and any jarring or bumping of the car along rough roads. Any pressure on the inside of the windscreen, especially near the damage, will also cause it to spread. Finally, a crack that is contaminated (for instance, one filled with liquid) is also likely to spread. Place a sticker or tape over the damage to keep it dry and clean until you can get it repaired or replaced.

A windscreen cannot have a chip larger than 1 cm in the driver’s line of sight to pass the MOT. A chip or crack larger than 4 cm anywhere on the windscreen will almost certainly result in a failed MOT.

The fastest way to check for colour tone is to hold a white piece of paper against a side window. The paper will take a slight green or blue hue if the window has a colour tone.

The quality of our windscreens is set by our supplier. Our supplier manufactures and buys windscreens made by original equipment manufacturers (OEM) but that are used on the aftermarket. What this means is that the windscreens we use are often the same quality as OEM windscreens, they just don’t have the car brand’s logo printed on them.

Car glass has to be completely dry when being replaced. However, this does not mean all hope is lost if it’s raining. Most car glass replacements can take place as long as there’s a covered area where the technician can perform the replacement.
