Tesla Model X and Windscreen Replacement

As I draft this article, recent reports show that electric car sales in Germany make up 30 per cent of all new vehicles sold. What makes the stat more astounding is the tempo at which electric car sales is climbing.

The world is changing in our lifetimes, and our kids might know not the internal combustion engine. The throaty roar of a British racing green Aston Martin V8 in full-song might very well become only a thing of legend, spoken off in hushed revered tones.

All is not doom and gloom, though. Thanks, in no small measure to Mr Elon Musk of Tesla Motors, the new dawn of motoring looks pretty exciting — and kinder to the planet.

For example, the Tesla Model X crossover sedan sprints from 0-100 km/h in a mere two-point six seconds thanks to two electric motors of 193 kW each and four-wheel drive. That is supercar territory!
Let us look at Tesla’s fun facts.

What is the history of Tesla motorcars and their connection to car glass?

Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning founded Tesla Motors in July 2003 — the company’s name is a tribute to Nikola Tesla, the famous inventor and electrical engineer.

A car manufacturer that is also a technology company — this is Tesla’s sole aim. The company focuses on the vehicle battery, computer software and the electric motor.

Interestingly, Tesla Glass Technology Group produces the roof glass for the Tesla Model 3 and the glass in the Tesla solar roof panels.

Staying true to the company’s technology drive, Tesla’s Autopilot includes an advanced driver-assistance system. However, currently, it still requires driver supervision.

The company’s vehicles have sensors, hardware, and software to support the Autopilot for future full self-driving: eight cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, a forward-facing radar, two GPUs, a powerful computer, and a driver-facing camera.

In 2020, Tesla became the first company to produce one million electric cars.

Why is the Tesla model x such a popular car?

It is easy to see why buyers are flocking to the Model X.

The Model X is a California-made mid-size all-electric luxury crossover based on the Model S platform. It is well known for its Falcon-wing doors and 580 km range.

Tesla equips the vehicle with their Autopilot driver-assist system. It autonomously changes freeway lanes, parks the car, exits a garage via phone and navigates a freeway offramp.

The car has a Smart Air Suspension system instead of coil springs, optional full self-driving and a collision-avoidance system.

The X has seven seats in three rows, two baggage areas and can tow 2250 kg.

In 2018, a Model X set the Guinness World Record for heaviest tow by an electric production passenger vehicle. It pulled a 130 000 kg Boeing 787 for 300 metres at Melbourne Airport.

Tesla Model X started transporting crew for the SpaceX Commercial Crew Program missions (for NASA) in 2020. The vehicles even have umbilicals for the astronauts.

Can I drive my Tesla model x with a cracked windscreen?

Cracks formed on the windscreen, and you wonder whether you could delay the repair.

Consequences with the Law

According to UK law, it’s illegal to operate a damaged vehicle. The number of cracks will decide the fine or penalty points to the driver’s license.

Safety concerns

The windscreen and other car glass (rear windscreen and side windows) serve various safety functions in the Tesla Model X.

Car windows protect the occupants against the elements and airborne debris and allow the driver and passengers to enjoy their surroundings in comfort.

Any cracks or damage obstructing the driver’s vision is a hazard.

In the unfortunate event of an accident, cracked car windows will not function as per their design. Their weak structure can be harmful to the occupants and third parties.

Remember, your Tesla has a host of very advanced technical features, of which many will depend on your windscreen to function optimally.

A question of ethics

Owners of vehicles have a moral obligation towards their passengers and the public to use and keep their cars in the safest possible manner.

Time and financial concerns must not affect one’s ethical choice.
